BBT Help

This is my first time ever doing basal body temp. My first go around was with an RE who did vaginal ultrasounds, this go around is with my regular old school OB. Anyway, so I started my period Saturday, took my BBT Sunday & it was 97.43, today was 96.98. The only thing I forgot to do before I did Saturday's was shake the thermometer the night before (instructions said to do that). Is it normal to be so apart? I thought they should be closer together? Did I screw it up by not shaking it the night before the first time? Someone please advise, thanks...

  • Yes. It's totally fine for temps to fluctuate. Are you using a mercury thermometer? I never heard of having to shake a digital, I never shook my digital therms and always got clear temp shifts. Are you using the fertilityfriend website? It will take out all the guess work.

  • i thought it said to shake it or maybe my dr said if i get a mercury shake it? That's sounds right- mine is a digital... I would look into a phone app- any recommendations? Thanks @mrscastillo
  • My temps were always really shifty during AF. The usually settled a few days later and stayed in a small range until O.
  • My temps also used to jump around, before settling into a steady pattern 3 or 4 days before ovulation. Fertility Friend was still able to calculate ovulation.
