? For C/S Mamas

What did you wear in the first days/week after your c/s? I still haven't packed my bag and am going to do it today, but not sure what I'll be able to wear so things don't sit right on my incision.

  • Maternity yoga pants were great - a anything with really high waistbands didn't irritate my incision. I honestly wore the hospital gown the entire time I was in the hospital - it was the easiest for the nurses to check everything they had to while minimizing my own necessary movement. And, it allowed us to pack extra light, with little to no laundry once we got home. :)

  • You know those gaucho jersey pants that were all the rage c.2005? They are awesome after a c/s and since I'm old and not stylish (hence my usage of "all the rage") I still have a few pairs.

Fold over yoga pants accomplish the same thing, too.

In the hospital, I wore a nursing nightgown. At home, fold over waist yoga pants. Mine were born in October so it was cold. I might have worn the nursing gown at home if it was warmer. The nursing gown was the one thing I'm glad I had at the hospital. Very comfy and easy for nurses to check incisions.

  • I wore my maternity yoga pants for the first week- then I switched to my maternity jeans.  All with my nursing tanks layered with sweaters or zip hoodies.  But by week 2, I was back in my pre-pregnancy clothes.  I will say I only carried my boys until 34 weeks- so I bounced back quickly and I was doing stairs at 5 days post c/s, driving by 10 days.  Shoes were another thing- I had to leave the hospital in my slippers since my feet were still so swollen- as were my legs until about a week after c/s.
  • I wore nursing nightgowns the whole time. I didn't want anything on the incision for a week

  • Thanks, ladies. It's been warm here so I was thinking the two knit full panel skirts would be good. I bought a bunch of cheapie granny panties at target this weekend. I'll go to Motherhood today to get some nursing nightgowns - that's a good idea. And damn, I just put a few pairs of those gaucho pants in the goodwill box that was picked up a few weeks ago, but i'll get a pair or two of yoga pants.
    Thanks everyone!!

  • very comfy stuff...stretchy/yoga type pants and t-shirts. I went home in black stretchy pants. I may be different than some, but I did not want anything on that felt like clothes.

  • Yoga pants, PInk sweatpants, maxi skirts. And maternity tanks.

  • Yoga pants and the tanks/shirts I wore while pg. I also made sure I had undies that were above the incision.

  • In the hospital, I wore the gowns for the most part.  Once I got home I wore yoga pants and t-shirts.  I'm short, so most yoga pants come up high on my stomach and away from the incision area.

  • Don't pack anything that will hit your incision. Even though my pre-preg outfits would probably fit I'm still wearing maternity undies and leggings three weeks post op. I wore the hospital gowns in the three days I was in the hospital just cause I didn't feel like the hassle of regular clothing.
  • High cut underwear and a maxi skirt or gauchos for the first week. (mine were born in summer) and then I was able to wear regular clothing.  My incision is very low as well and I didn't have much of an issue with things rubbing it.

So it sounds like I'm going to need to get maternity underwear then? I've gone this far with just wearing big cheap granny panties from Target and was hoping I could stick with those to the end. But those might not work post partum with the incision?

  • I just used the mesh panties the hospital provided. You'll be wearing ginormous pads, anyway, so the mesh ones in the hospital absolutely do the trick!

I just wear what they give you in the hospital. Between examinations and using the bathroom etc ... "real" clothes just aren't worth it! Plus what with the bleeding and the huge pads your normal undies aren't going to cut it.

At home I wore panties that sat under my incision (so basically, just regular bikini underwear), stretchy skirts or yoga pants, and nursing tanks with a sweater over them.

Ok, I'm a bit strange compared  to all of you.  I bought panties that were 2 sizes too big so they were nice and loose on the incision line, but I'd suggest maybe 1 size too big and the ones that go up to your belly button.  I also wore some maternity bib overalls.  NO chance of any pressure on my waist at all that way.  I'm not one to worry about fashion or style though, I'm too much of a tomboy.  (Maybe that's why God gave me 2 boys and not a girl??)
