Good Morning Pregnant Peeps & Partners! ![]()
Here is our current EDD roster for this check-in:
I am purposely not including anyone with a new pregnancy on this list unless they have confirmed their EDD and/or said that they want to be added to the list. I don't want to add anyone until they tell us they are ready, but I also don't want to exclude anyone, sooooo please let me know if you need to be added - please and thanks! ![]()
So, how is everyone feeling/doing? Any updates? What is new and exciting in pregnancy land this week?
QOTW: Do you and your partner/spouse plan to do anything special to celebrate Mother's Day this year (whether you will have a newborn or whether you will still be pregnant)? If not, tell us something that you look forward to celebrating in the coming weeks/months!

Re: Pregnancy Check-in!
We are currently due Dec. 12... Which is 2 days before my birthday. A year ago, when we started trying, I swore I didn't want to every try in March because I am so super jaded about having a December birthday. Now I am so excited for the world's best birthday present.
I have been a bit nauseous and tired.. But just enough to remind me that there is something going on. In fact if I am not nauseous, I get a little nervous. Anyone else experience this?
Our first ultrasound is next Tuesday and I am just so anxious that something is going to go wrong. Our last beta was 1016, and our average doubling time was 32 hours... So it appears to be a strong little Squinter, but I am just so worried that we are going to be heart broken again.
I have also been researching pregnancy super foods and am starting a new meal plan today. My eating has been a bit out of control lately and it is time to reel it in!
QOTD: Both my parents and A's parents are coming for Easter and I am really excited! We have rented a cabin at camp, and are going to have all of the property to ourselves for day. There will be fishing, hiking and more! Should be a good time.

@manada gets to stop estrogen and progesterone on Wednesday when we are 12w and she is very excited about that. On Thirsday we have our final RE appointment and NT scan. If things look good then we will probably announce on Facebook shortly after that. M would be happy to wait longer but I want to share the news and she is willing so we will probably do it.
We are on our way back from a short trip to Chicago to see my family. We drove down Thursday. Last night we drove 3 hours and stayed at a motel in michigan. We will drive the rest of the way today. We can do the trip in one day but since M has to be at work early on Tuesday we wanted some time to settle in back at home this evening rather than arriving back late.
While in Chicago we picked up the stroller that we ordered and had shipped to my parents house and we also bought two rock n plays since they don't sell those in Canada and the deluxe models were on sale at target.
QOTW: I do not think we will do anything to celebrate. My family has never been big on Mother's Day or Father's Day. And while M and I plan to both be Mom-named parents to our kids, neither of us feels super comfy in the way mother is typically gendered by Mother's Day. M has said that she'd be happy to take Father's Day when our kids are growing up because dads tend to get presents and craft projects that interest her more on Father's Day than those that moms get on Mother's Day.
We're queer. I'm 33, have severe stage 4 endo, and had both fallopian tubes removed. My love ("Manada" on the boards, 32) was diagnosed with diminished ovarian reserve. We did Partner IVF (my eggs, her uterus). We lost our twins Tavin and Casey at 21 weeks gestation.
Our IUIs
with @Manada: IUI# 1-7 (December 2012- September 2013) all BFN. Tried natural, femara, clomid, puregon/follistim, clomid and menopur combo, both the ovidrel and HCG triggers.
Our IVFs:
IVF #1 my eggs November/December 2013: Cancelled IVF due to poor response
IVF #2 my eggs/Manada's uterus January/February 2014
BCPs and lupron overlap Stimmed: 1/22-2/2: Bravelle and Menopur (dosage ranged from B300 and M150 to B375 and M150 to B300 and M225)
2/4 retrieved 10 eggs. Endo was much worse than expected. Only 3 eggs fertilized; February 7 transferred two day 3 embryos, froze one. All great condition.
BFP eve of 6dp3dt; Beta 1 (11dp3dt): 110; Beta 2 (13dp3dt): 175; Beta 3 (15dp3dt): 348; Beta 4 (19dp3dt): 2222; Beta 5 (21dp3dt): 4255
1st ultrasound (3/6 6w 1d): TWINS!!!! Twin A measuring 6w1d with a heartbeat of 118bpm. Twin B measuring 6w0d with a heartbeat of 113bpm.
***July 18, 2014 we lost our beautiful babies at 21 weeks gestation. They were born too early. Tavin Sara T. and Casey Elizabeth T. are beautiful and precious and we will love them and miss them forever.***

@Doodah1013 - Hells yeah I had a love/hate relationship with my m/s. Fortunately lil'mamaz answered my call - make me sick enough not to worry, but not so sick I can't function - which is about what I got. It was physically unpleasant but emotionally super reassuring! Also I want a look at your super foods list!!!
@healz413 - How the heck are you two already at the end of the first trimester!?!! That is awesome!
@2momsinCA - FX your second a/s goes well - we had 2 too, and it was fun seeing her again!
--
I'm 21w5d and EDD 8/20 with lil'mamaz.
Well, I jinxed myself. I was bragging how awesome this pregnancy has been in terms of illness, in that I hadn't gotten sick and hadn't so much as taken a single tylenol! So of course, I woke up Friday with a sore throat. I'm SO bummed but J told me (and I quote) "stop being a tit about it." Now that is love. She was right, so I busted out a ton of home remedies (lots of raw honey/lemon hot 'tea,' extra Vitamin C and tons of water) and things are looking up. I was mostly super bummed because of vacation coming on Wednesday and 6 hour flights with a cold! Anyhow things seem better today, here's hoping I got a 'light' version! A lot of my fear-based reaction was in relation to my 3+ week massive ear infection I had last pregnancy...but this isn't that, thank god.
Despite feeling crappy, I went to prenatal yoga as usual on Saturday, and on Sunday, I did a 3-mile walk around Greenlake + attended a special prenatal yoga class focused on healthy hips and back during pregnancy. It was a really cool class, as most all the postures (exercises really) we do here and there in regular class, but it was helpful to do them as a batch to understand their focus on hips and/or back for not just pregnancy discomfort, but also labor.
In other cool news - my next-door-neighbor told us she is pregnant, and found out they are having a girl too!! We are SO excited! I dragged her to yoga Saturday - she's still in the 1st tri fog, but said "thank you for making this decision for me" LOL. Been there. Last week also our too-good-to-be-true awesome daycare option fell through! I cried. Stupid hormones. But, with the news of A next door being pregnant, we are talking nanny-share! We only want three days a week, and we just didn't want her being the only kid, so this may work out really well for us. We'll see.
We met with a doula last week - she was pretty high on the woo-woo scale, which doesn't rule her out but we are going to check on two others (she even suggested doing so). She also teaches hypnobirthing classes in Seattle, and is very credible. The super woo-woo thing she does is "pre-natal bonding" sessions weekly from now until 36w, basically guided meditations where you connect with your baby. Doesn't sound bad to me, just not 100% sure on all the 'extras' in terms of time and energy - I think she'd be a great doula for us, but we'll decide after vacation for sure.
Otherwise all is well and mostly we are just focused and excited for Maui on Wednesday! I got packed this weekend, and honestly I still look at my mat clothes and think "whose clothes are these!?!" but I tried things on as I packed to be sure they worked and have a good stash for summery weather (a good thing since I'm due end of summer).
Pregnancy symptoms overall are pretty low as I revel in mid-second-tri bliss - heartburn is WAY better since my swelling resolved (for now); belly is growing; energy is good; eating/sleeping/elminating all good; Simone's h/b is strong and steady when I check... I guess other than my stupid cold I'm in great shape!!
QOTW: I hadn't really thought of celebrating for myself or J - but I kinda like the idea. I think J is going to be such an awesome mom. She reads to Simone every night and plays her classical music. She gets worried if she can't get in touch with me not just because of me, but because I have Simone with me too. Which is sweet (and a reminder to keep my ringer on). So, I might get her a little card or something now that you mention it!! Otherwise, my mom lives here along with my 3 sisters, so we will for sure do something with her. Usually out to brunch, and then just some family time together which she loves and always wants more of than we all can manage to coordinate.
Me (43) and J (45) - same sex couple. And we don't feel 40+!

Mr. Baby seems to be doing great. At my OB appointment last week, he measured at about 2 lbs and 45% percentile. He was head down and my placenta previa has resolved. I gained another 2.5 lbs, so I only have about 10 more I'm supposed to gain in the next 13 weeks. Yikes -- that's going to be a challenge. My doctor recommended 30 minutes of walking every day, and so far I've stuck with it. I also tested negative for GD and anemia. Woo hoo!
Still no progress on the nursery, but we did a serious deep-clean of the first floor of our house on Saturday and we now have a functional stove/oven, so we're feeling a little bit more together.
QOTW: We will likely celebrate Mother's Day in the future, but for now it feels kind of jinxy to me. And since my mother and grandmothers are deceased, we don't celebrate with them either. My sisters and I usually do something small for my step-mom to be nice, but she's not really a mom to us (we were in our late 20s by the time we met her). And we get a gift for my MIL, but she's out of state so we don't celebrate with her in person. Kind of a weird holiday for me these days -- I'm looking forward to really being able to celebrate next year, although since my wife works on Sundays and Mr. Baby won't be old enough to do anything on his own, I don't think "celebrating" will amount to much.

I will be 33 weeks tomorrow. I posted a big update about baby still being breech last week with my PIP on Thursday, so I won't rehash all that here. The cliff-notes version is that we are possibly looking at a planned c-section on May 27th if baby doesn't flip. My next appointment is Wednesday the 23rd (on the 2-week plan now, woah!), and we will see if she is still breech then.
In good news (actually amazingly fantastic news!), my hearburn is night-and-day better since I started taking my Rx for Nexium at the end of last week. I had been vomiting bile every morning (sorry TMI) due to heartburn, and I was popping tums in between zantac doses and still miserable. My worst day was last Wednesday when I was driving and had to pull over on the side of the road to vomit from the heartburn. After that I had an honest conversation with my OB, and she said "We need to fix this ASAP. I know you don't want to take an Rx, but too bad! This isn't good for you or baby"... and I listened and the Nexium has literally changed my life. I still wake up around 3 or 3:30 am with breakthrough heartburn, but I can manage until I take my Nexium at 6am. During the day, I am practically heartburn free. I didn't take a single tums all weekend, and I haven't vomitted in several days. It's like angels are singing!
Lots of progress is being made at our house with nursery and playroom prep... and I made strides in getting ready for baby this weekend by starting to pack my hospital bag and doing a big Target run to stock up on lots of health & beauty essentials for post baby (we won't run out of shampoo or toothpaste til she is in Kindergarten -- I kid, I kid). I will save more about all this prep stuff for my 10 things for tomorrow.
Our baby shower is on Saturday the 26th, and I am getting really excited for that also!
I am not going to talk about hip/back pain, shortness of breath or not sleeping this week, but please know that if you are in the 3rd tri and experiencing these things, I am soooooo right there with you!
QOTW: I asked this question this week, because I just finalized plans for my wife, mother-in-law and myself for Mother's Day, and I am excited about it. So it was on my mind. My mother-in-law sent my wife and I a text about 2 weeks ago asking if we would like to spend Mother's Day together just the three of us. Usually we do brunch with my in-laws and my wife's brother and his wife and sometimes a few more family members... this year my mother-in-law wanted it to be low key, but she also wanted to celebrate my wife and I being on the brink of becoming moms this year, which I thought was super sweet and special. Sooo... after some discussion and thought (as I will be just shy of 38 weeks by mother's day), we made brunch reservations at a really fun restaurant in Old City Philadelphia that none of us have ever been to, and then we are going to walk a few blocks after brunch to an annual arts and crafts festival with local artists and vendors that will be taking place that day at Penn's Landing (water front in Philly). The plan is to walk around and maybe find a few treasures. The fall-back plan (if I am feeling mega uncomfy and just not digging it), is a trip to a local salon for us to all get pedicures. I think either way it will be fun, and I am excited!

@2Mamazinseattle - I hope your cold lifts before your trip to Hawaii. I am just a little jealous and am looking forward to pics so I can enjoy some tropical sunshine vicariously through you.
@healz413 & @manada - 2nd Trimester !!! So exciting.
Currently 37 weeks 6 days. The last few days I have been overwhelmed with extreme exhaustion. I seem to have 1 maybe 2 hours of energy before I feel like passing out. Literally my eyes close whenever I sit down. It's kinda funny, and a little overwhelming since life hasn't really stopped to accommodate my new energy level (or lack thereof).
My BFF from growing up visited us last week, and between us we really managed to catch up on baby-prep. Mostly she entertained Kaden while I organized, etc. But it was such a huge help. EV and I have also gotten a ton done the last few weekends. I feel pretty prepared. FINALLY!!! Lol. I'm still concerned about getting my Capstone project done, but I've gotten a lot of the other personal business, etc. things out of the way, which really helps. I love to-do lists with lots of check marks.
We had a cute baby shower last Friday thrown for us by EV's co-workers. We met at a restaurant downtown. They made little green chocolate chip cupcakes decorated with sea turtles, which were yummy (too yummy they sent a few home with us...). They had requested EV make a registry, and I got to open gifts, some of the items were even a surprise which was really cool. We definitely weren't expecting a baby shower for #2, but it was so sweet and I liked spending more time getting to know EV's team.
Our midwife appointment was rescheduled for Thursday of this week and one of our midwives R is coming to our house. I'm going to ask for a cervical check I think to see how I'm progressing to date.
We have our childbirth refresher class this coming Saturday. It's a fairly short class, the morning is just for the parents-to-be, the second half we add our kids and do some birth, baby prep with them. I'm looking forward to it. I had a dream that I went into labor on Saturday.... FX that if that's the case, that its not during the class since our midwife R is teaching it.
Physically I've been having mild (like premenstrual mild) cramping, and a lot of pelvic pressure. I feel good otherwise. Ready to meet Owen. As EV was leaving for work this morning she asked me if I would mind going into labor today so she could miss work. I told her I'd see what I could do - haha. But in all seriousness to wrap things up this week in case baby decided to make an early appearance.
QOTD: We haven't planned anything as of yet. My mom is out of town, so we usually send a card and Skype. Maybe we'll make a nice breakfast and I might get or make EV a card.
PIP - 37 weeks
@2mamazinseattle... Here is my current list of must-do's in the daily diet:
1. Over 100 grams of protein (lots of whey protein shakes, with lean meats, and cottage cheese)
2. 1 tbsp. of Chia Seeds and 1 tbsp. of Flax seed. I mix them in with steel cut oats in a mason jar oatmeal. I add 1/2 cup of organic oats, the chia, flax, 1 tbsp. of brown sugar and raisins. The night before eating, I add milk until it covers everything and it sits in the fridge overnight. Pretty yummy!
3. At least one piece of orange fruit or veggies
4. 32 ounces of probiotic water kefir (home brewed with my little kefir grains). This is supposed to help with gut health and I have read in pregnancy it helps with constipation. It is also fizzy and delicious and replaces my need for soda.
5. 2 organic eggs
6. 2 servings of sprouted whole grains.. right now I am doing chicken paninis for lunch and a heavy whole wheat bread is perfect!
7. Potatoes 3x a week
8. All hormone free and steroid free meats (I think I am driving @firstcomeslove2013 nuts with this one... but it is really important to me.)
9. At least 1 dark leafy green salad. This week we got a spinach/kale/chard mix. (This is also a great hiding place for my second hard boiled egg.)
I think that is it. So far, I am feeling relatively full and content with this meal plan. Of course, it is only day one. Also... I am trying to require that all of my chocolate intake is in dark chocolates for the anti-oxidant properties.

@KH826 - I'm SO glad you found something to fix the heartburn. Just my week of swelling causing me to wake up from it was miserable, I cannot imagine what you're going through. I know none of us want to "take anything" but there is a definite point where the alternative is no longer worth it. Good for you!!!

I am way too lazy to tag people tonight, but I have been reading!
We just got back from a whirlwind weekend trip to Chicago to visit H's family - which was lovely. I am absolutely exhausted though which is leading me to believe it may be a bit of a blessing in disguise that I won't be able to do long distance trips anymore: being in the car, being social, and being active while visiting another city is hard work!
Symptom wise I am good. While away I managed to curb my nausea by taking the recommended 2 diclectin before bed and it helped me sleep through the night without getting hungry or having to eat to keep from barfing. That was nice. I am also getting more Round Ligament Pain which started last week and was exasperated by all the car travelling and walking we did....
Otherwise, got a call from the midwife today that my hemoglobin is pretty low, which may actually account for some of my fatigue and breathing issues as of late, so we are looking after that now with a hard-core plan of lots of supplements and things to help absorbtion.
That's about it with us, except that today I realized that from the side I am beginning to look a bit Egg-shaped, which freaked me out a bit. It's really amazing how fast the growing happens with twins ... no pregnancy book prepared me for it!
And tomorrow is my last day of the progesterone and estrace!!!! Goodbye smurfy-goopy twat! I won't miss you a bit!

QOTW: Do you and your partner/spouse plan to do anything special to celebrate Mother's Day this year (whether you will have a newborn or whether you will still be pregnant)? If not, tell us something that you look forward to celebrating in the coming weeks/months!
Every year my mother's side of the family does a big Mother's Day/Family reunion. This year it is on the other coast but we are excited to make it. I will see my aunt that lives up North and some family members that I haven't seen in years. Always a good time. This will be our last, official Mother's Day before we are mothers ourselves.
Married to M and proud mothers to Olivia and Elise (8/19/2014) and to our fur-babies: Capone (pitbull), Jax and Atticus (cats)
