Sigh. W is a night-screaming fool.

Hi peeps!

I just posted a long plea for help on W's birth month board.  I don't know what I'm even looking for, but we are in a rough state over here.  W has been SCREAMING at night.  Wakes up straight-up screaming. Multiple times.  Like six times, so every hour to hour and a half.  DW has been a major rock star since I am just done by night time.  I think y'all know I was laid off, so am at home all day with him.  Days are long and tiring as he doesn't nap well, and he rises early (like 4:30) and he'll go back to sleep for another hour or so, but I don't go back to sleep so well.  So by the time he is screaming at 11:30 at night, I'm almost in tears.

Anyway, I don't know what his issue is, but it is big.  Maybe night terrors?  I hate to be a rash labeler, but might be that.  Everyone says that they go sleepless when they are about to make a major developmental stage, but he has been walking forever, has eight teeth, etc.  Is he getting ready to bust out with calculus?  Mad unicycle skills?

Please, baby, go to sleep.  Thanks for listening, awesome parents and parents-to-be.

"Things separate from their stories have no meaning. They are only shapes. Of a certain size and color. A certain weight. When their meaning has become lost to us they no longer have even a name. The story on the other hand can never be lost from its place in the world for it is that place.” ― Cormac McCarthy, The Crossing

  • I'm so sorry to hear that you've all been having a rough time.  I don't have any proven advice, but a few things we tried with Kaden over the years (you might even be doing some or all of these things):

    - white noise machine (life saver, the sound lulled him when he'd wake up and not be able to put himself to sleep again).
-very specific (non-altering) bedtime routine. Same time, same PJ's, same book or song, etc.
-soothers (for K right around 13 months) we introduced his "buddy" a stuffed animal, who sleeps with him every night.
-Is he weaning or attempting to wean?  Kaden had some sleep issues around 13 months when he was less interested in BFing and I was introducing bottles of cows milk more often.
-potential allergy or indigestion to new foods? Kaden ended up allergic to certain things (Strawberries, peanuts, etc). He gets eczema which makes him fussy, uncomfortable and prone to waking up more, sometimes even before getting the eczema rash.

Let me know if you ever want to talk more, or just complain if its a rough day. I'm home on PST during the day (we can Skype :-) and introduce the boys.

Hope tonight is easier than the last!

@stringy813 I think you had some issues like this with M, didn't you?

@Cageymack, I'm so sorry you're going through this.  I didn't know you had been laid off, I'm sure you are completely spent by the time evening rolls around every day.  I'm glad that your DW is being such a rock at night.

We are also having issues at night and with sleeping, but for us there isn't the screaming factor (well, he doesn't scream if he gets to nurse.  If we try anything else to get him back down it's scream city, but it's clear he's awake and we all know what he wants).

So at any rate, I'm with you.  Exhausted and sleep-deprived.  Hang in there.  And when you figure out what major development they're about to make, let me know.  Because, like W, Gabe's been walking forever and has a million teeth.
