Breast Pumps - SAHM help

This is not a 'what brand do you recommend' question. It is a question of single vs. double.

I am 95% sure that I am staying home (I'm a teacher so I don't have to decide until July). I had registered for a double when I thought if go back for obvious reasons but I didn't get it. So now I'm making my list of what I still need to buy off my registry and I'm rethinking the double. It's $270 vs $153. If I was going back id definitely want the faster double one but is that necessary if I'm going to be home? Is it still going to take up too much of my time? Thanks!!

If you'll be home it's not a necessity no. I would do what's best for your budget. But make sure you're sure, I wouldn't even attempt to pump at work with a single. It would take way to long to get the output you would need to sustain baby.

  • I asked my ob this exact question as I'll be home too, she said no doubt get the double electric! I guess it's worth the extra money. Check insurance coverage too I got mine free on Cigna!
  • Because our insurance plan is grandfathered in it does not include breast pumps - lame.

  • I'm also a teacher and pumped last time at work with the Ameda double. This time I don't think in going back and will be staying at home. However, my insurance covers a pump so I will be getting a double and will probably get the Ameda vs the Medela since I'm used to it and liked how it worked!

The Ameda one will run you about $150 or less for the double! It really does work well and I never had issues...and mine was even used!

I also had a single I used on the way to work that would also work as a manual.

  • I stayed at home for the first year with DD.  I used a single.  It was fine.

  • Even as a SAHM, time is still valuable and I would recommend a double pump. It is worth the extra money in my opinion.

Amen. The faster you can get it done, the better, especially as the baby starts spending more time awake and aware and inevitably wants to be picked up when you're only halfway through pumping.

  • Double! Pumping is annoyingly time consuming... Especially when your newborn is sitting there screaming as you try to hurry up and pump. I can't imagine a single and I was/am a SAHM.
  • I'm a sahm and DOUBLE.

  • I say get the double. Either way, going back to work or not, you're covered!
  • Worth it for the double. I'm a SAHM and I started out with a single and hated how long it took. Ended up getting a double later on and it was SO worth it.

  • I'm a sahm. I have a double and nursed my son for 13 months. I never used more than one at a time. I also barely used the thing at all so there is that.
  • Double! I only pumped to have extra so I could take child-free trips. The time savings is substantial. Especially when you have a little one running around!
