Stopping letdown

Perhaps a strange question

I always letdown on both sides and lose a lot of milk in letdown. If I apply light pressure to the side not being pumped or fed on I can stop most of the leaking. I always pump or feed the second side immediately after. Will stopping the flow temporarily like this affect supply?

  • I agree with pp. I DD is 5 months old and I stop the other side with pressure when nursing or pumping. No supply problems here. In fact I still only feed one side per feeding.

  • Thanks ladies. Glad to hear it's OK/ good to do since I can lose a ton of milk from the other side otherwise.

  • If I stop the let down on the other side... It becomes quite engorged. I HAVE to pump then. Even at 16 weeks. He has never taken both sides in one feeding. I just let the other side flow and change my pad. It's been regulating enough where I only go through two or three pads a day now. I recently bought a manual pump and in his first feeding of the day I try hard to remember to throw the pump on... That's a huge loss!
