Do your kids eat sandwiches?

I am thinking of what to serve at DD's 2nd birthday party. I am considering getting either sandwich trays or trays of sandwich fixings to make your own. If I go this way I thought I'd also make up some kid friendly sandwiches like pb&j. What other sandwiches are kid friendly (ages 2-5 will be there). My kids love sandwiches of any sort but I'm thinking that's not the norm....

Re: Do your kids eat sandwiches?

  • Nope. My kids like "sandwiches" with PB or Nutella, or a grilled cheese...but a sandwich with lunch meat or lettuce is a no go.

  • Neither DD nor DS will eat pb and/or jelly. DD will eat regular lunch meat sandwiches, but she deconstructs them to eat them. DS will eat sandwiches. His favorite is when I make sandwiches out of Hawaiian rolls.

  • I serve sandwiches and she eats them in pieces. Like she takes the sandwich apart and will then eat it one part at a time. A sandwich making bar I think is friendliest to you and most likely to be a hot with kids who can choose to have whatever parts they prefer either constructed as a sandwich or not.
Hallelujah, it's a miracle, I have children AND a signature!

  • Lydia only started eating lunchmeat last summer, she'll be 5 in a 1.5 months. She's been eating PJ&J since she was like 3. Neither of my babies eat lunchmeat or PB&J, they'll be 3 in a couple months.

Hes 3 and eat a sandwiches. Turkey or ham normally
  • DS1 is very picky and will eat PB (no jelly) or Nutella sandwiches. He will eat cheese sandwiches but usually takes them apart. He does not do lunch meat usually but might eat bologna if he's in the mood because he likes to fold it in half and bite a face in it.

  • My boys only eat PBJ or grilled cheese. If they are somewhere that has turkey or ham sandwiches, I end up deconstructing it for them.
  • My kids will only eat pb&j or a grilled cheese. DS will eat lunch meat turkey or ham but not on a sandwich.

  • Yep, DS will eat any sandwich I'm having (I usually cut mine into quarters and give him one, and it's usually a meat/cold cut and cheese of some sort on a bun).

  • No. She used to. I wish she'd eat a PB & J!
  • My older two do (7 and 3) but my 3 year old is not the neatest with them. He picks at the rolls and usually ends up taking it all apart while eating them.
  • Reese eats almond butter sandwiches. She also likes turkey sub sandwiches (just plain turkey) and ham sandwiches.

  • She eats the stuff inside of sandwiches, but not put together unless it's hot/grilled.
  • Mine will do grilled cheese. They like turkey and pepperjack too. We are a peanut free house, so no pbj anymore. DS1 would be in the hospital, but my nieces used to like pb and marshmallow cream for fun (ew!)

  • He'll eat PBJ or a grilled cheese, but normally he will deconstruct a meat & cheese sandwich and eat all the components separately. I think he doesn't like them because it's hard for him to hold onto it without everything falling out.

  • Mine eat pb & jelly only. We have been to parties that have made premade sandwiches and they just take them apart and eat everything separately. They do that for hamburgers too, not sure why.
  • All 3 of my older kids eat sandwiches. I think the build your own option is a great idea.

  • DS will eat turkey and cheese sandwiches and some other cold cuts randomly.  He doesn't like peanut butter so I haven't bothered with jelly.  His favorite sandwich is actually whole wheat bread with any flavor of Laughing Cow cheese spread on it.  DD I haven't really given anything but a cream cheese on whole wheat so far.

  • I'm no help, neither of my kids eat much bread/gluten of any kind - they follow a real Paleo diet, it's weird. I love them though, sounds like a great plan!

Mine will not touch deli meats- never has. She just won't.  She will eat a PB sandwich, but no jelly. And she'll do grilled cheese.

My girl's typically take wraps for lunch.
    On them they typically put:
meat (usually what is leftover: steak, chicken, roast beef, ham)
    lettuce
    Cheese
Spiros sauce (amazing greek sauce, made by a gentleman in my hometown)
On whole grain, or multigrain tortillas.
They aren't big on bread, and neither am I.
