Is it stupid to get a 4D ultrasound at 37 wks?

It would be an elective ultrasound just cause I am impatient and constantly thinking about what LO will look like. Plus DH and I are having a VERY hard time agreeing on a name. It's not too expensive but considering I could really go any day now I wasn't sure if I was being silly or not. I just feel like my mind would be put at ease and our LO could finally have a name chosen. WDYT?

I probably wouldn't do it with you being so close. I'm also not sure that a 4D u/s will really help you choose a name. You kind of get an idea of what they are going to look like, but it's still very hard to picture. I'd just wait until I saw LO in person and choose the name then. That being said, if you both want to do it and don't care about spending the money than go for it!

The only concern at this point would be how the baby is laying in your belly. We had a 4D at around 28 weeks and baby did not cooperate and we were finally able to get god pictures on a subsequent visit. It is unlikely that baby would change positions because there is such little room at this point so it might be a waste of money.

It might be hard to get a good imagine because by 37 weeks your LO is pretty squished in there. However, I know plenty of people still get decent pictures and video. I had one at 34 weeks and it was great. It was amazing to see my little guy and he looked very similar at birth.

Thanks ladies. I'm still so torn on what to do. We did have a 2D ultrasound done a few days ago and LO had his fist in his face. He does respond well and moves around a heck of a lot still so I am hopeful... but I know things can change daily.

I was going to get one done but I didn't want to spend the money. More than I could afford. The lady said to have it done before 34 weeks I believe or they are to big and crowded to get a good pic.

I personally wouldn't do it this close. Being so far along, I doubt the pictures would be worth it. Plus, you don't have much longer.

I agree with previous posters. If you've got the money to throw away for kicks then go for it but you'll see the baby any day now anyway. I have a list of names and I feel like once he is born and I hold him and bond a little then the name will come to me then and there.

That late it's a waste of money, which does make it silly and stupid (using your words) IMO. I didn't get clear 3D pics past 34 wks, it's just too crowded to get a good picture no matter which way babies were positioned.

I had an US at 33 weeks and she tried to get us a 3d shot. It took 15 minutes and we got a decent one. Baby was head down and his face was up against my uterus. It was very difficult then and I was only 33 weeks. I imagine at 37 it is a lot worse

You will get a good idea of what your baby would look like with a fat smashed face

They don't usually do 3D that late in pregnancy as it is very hard to get a good picture. I would spend the money on something for after the baby is born!

actually I just googled 37 week 4d & they were adorable!!! really looked like what the newborns look like but I'd still wait because it's a fun surprise to see that newborn face in person!!

You've got 3-5 weeks to wait tops. I'd save the money and hold tight. Use it to buy something baby needs!

I'm 40 weeks + 2 days and I had a biophysical today... When they switched to 3D her face was all smashed up against the placenta so it was hard to get a good image of her face. I wouldn't have paid for that. I would just wait! :-)

I highly doubt any place would do a 4d ultrasound at 37 weeks. And to be honest theres really no point. You're so close, you're only about 2-4 weeks away. Just hang in there!
