Meal Planners

I haven't seen any meal planning threads for a while, so I figured I would make one. I signed up for Plan to Eat the other day and it's awesome! Does anyone else use it?

What are you planning to make this week? I'm feeling very mentally uncreative and am having a hard time coming up with meal ideas.

  • @hplusb‌ what is plan to eat?

I've only done my shopping list for this week, I have to sit down with the calendar and work out specific meals still....

@hplusb how do you like Plan to Eat?  I use an old fashion calender but am always interested in better ways.

I plan 2 weeks at a time and this is what's lined up for this week/ a little of next (I make enough for leftovers the next day and sometimes the day after that too):

    1.Burgers on the BBQ
2.Whole roasted chicken (crockpot if I'm lazy), "healthy" creamed spinach for LO and I
    3.Chicken enchiladas w/ leftover chicken
4.Beerbrats (I'm wrapping them in beer bread batter....we will see), curried roasted cauliflower
    5. Beef bergundy stew
*maybe beef short ribs in there somewhere.  I have a recipe from FoodTV mag I want to try.

I made slowcooker pullled pork last night and it's my best ever!  I rubbed the pork with the spices leftover from that paleo smoky beef roast somebody posted about awhile back, then I also used the McCormick pulled pork packet.  So yum!

Sidenote: you can see how dedicated I am to a Paleo inspired lifestyle...gotta get back on the wagon!

  • I plan and shop a week at a time, here's the lineup: turkey crockpot chili (it's snowing here today!), turkey sloppy joes with baked sweet potato fries and peas, grilled chicken brats with veggies and dip, chicken "fried rice" but with quinoa (and carrots, broccoli, peas), and bean burritos. We eat pretty kid friendly food (for DS1) but pretty healthfully, too, and usually eat out or takeout on Friday and Saturday.

  • Not the best cook, but here's what we're having this week. We like carbs...

    Meals April 13-19
Sunday: lunch- sloppy joes, engagements that night
    Monday: baked chicken chimichangas
Tuesday: lasagna roll ups, garlic bread
Wednesday: turkey burgers, pasta salad, rolls
Thursday: fish and new potatoes, rolls
    Fri: spaghetti, garlic bread
    Sat: leftovers

I look at Pinterest for some ideas and try to cook meals that have some of the same ingredients so I can recycle for the next week.

  • I have not planned for the week yet. Weusually do on mMonday since that is when we r both home to go grocery shopping. I always look on different though for past meals I had pinned. It keeps dinner interesting. Lunches are always our leftovers

No idea if it is any good!  I love fatty creamed spinach made with cream and parmesan, so we'll see.  If I don't like it, LO will eat it.  Weirdo likes cooked chopped spinach any way I make it.

  • We rarely eat dinner at home during the week; I meal prep lunches for me and DH and for DS' lunchbox for dinner at school.

Mon- tacos for DH, Chix salad for me and DS
Tues- DH&me salads, DS- pasta w Chix

That's about as far as my prep gets! We often hit the grocery store mid-week for inspiration. We always keep yogurt in the house as a backup for DS while DH and I will grab something in NYC a few days a week.
  • If you're feeling uninspired, go through your weekly grocery store flyers and see if anything on special catches your eye so you can find a recipe to try.

Also, I know it's a Canadian chain but if you go to Sobeys.com and click on the get cooking section, there are many great recipes there that are easy but quite tasty and often the new ones reflect what's in season for produce.

We use this grocery list, I have used it for YEARS. I LOVE it, it makes keeping track simple. Every week I tear off a page, on the back I write down the days of the week and under each day I come up with the meal and write it down. Then I flip the page over and check off what I need for each meal. Makes it really simple to keep track. Then we have our complete list ready to go to the store to get for the week.

    :)
