What Do You See That Bothers You the Most?

On FB yesterday, someone posted how their one week old daughter was killing her bottle of formula and rice cereal. Someone commented on it and said "already?" and she said since her umbilical cord fell off, it's ok and she's not trying to be up all night. That irked the living sh** out of me! I wanted to say something about how selfish that is, but I held back. What kinds of things do you see that burns you up?

I hate seeing the thick winter coats on an infant/toddler in the car seat. I think the girl that I was riding with that didn't bother strapping her 1 year old in her seat took the cake though. I actually spoke up on that one.

  • ditto to the car seat issues mentioned above- puffy coats in the car seat and the infant seat precariously balanced on the shopping cart. i just read yesterday that more infants are injured every year in their car seats OUT of the car than IN the car in an actual car accident.
  • FF before 1 KILLS me. To each their own, and excuse my ignorance, but isn't before 1, illegal everywhere? A friend on ig posted this with their 9 month old and gave me the whole "well his feet were touching the back of the seat" excuse. Do what you want but really?

Also the bucket seat on top of a shopping cart.
FF is not an age thing, it's based on weight (here anyway). An infant can be 22 lbs and younger than 12m and be legally allowed to FF.

As a breastfeeding Mom it bothered me to see a 1 week old drinking cereal out of her bottle. That's why.

  • Did the pedi say to give the baby cereal? She is not only being selfish, but damaging her child's gut. If she wanted sleep, she should have hired a night nurse or not had a baby.

My thoughts exactly. I doubt any pedi would recommend cereal in a bottle for a 1 week old.

Really!? Wow, see I didn't know that I thought you really "couldn't" until at least 1. period. I said I didn't know so thanks for letting me know.
It may depend on the state.  In IL the it's RF until the infant is at least 12 months AND over 20 lbs.

People who don't vaccinate. We are going through a measles outbreak here in my city. It is due to people not vaccinating any more. So now my 8 month old is exposed, he is too young for the vaccine himself. I really hope no little babies die because of this. It bothers me because it is so easily preventable.
This is what I was going to say.  I got into on FB with two people about this.  It's the only thing I really get incensed about because it affects everyone.

Wait--I think I'm guilty of this carseat and shopping cart. We put the car seat in the shopping cart where the kiddie seat is--are we not supposed to? I see it being a little tipsy but I always have my hand on it to steady it to ensure it doesn't fall off. How do you bring baby into the store? I guess I learned something  :(

@JandACoffee‌ you can also baby wear :)

If you have 'clicked' your carseat onto the cart, it can also damage the locking mechanism and cause it to fail in an accident if you are using the base. You may want to seriously consider replacing your current seat.

Definitely NOT safe. The cart can (and has for many people) tip over cause its off balance. Place the car seat in the main basket of the cart. Its a little more annoying to place things around it and in the kiddie seat but a million times safer.
Oh ok, it's a cart issue--not a carseat issue. Yeah we usually keep it in the basket area of the cart, but when there's too much stuff in the basket area we'll put it near the kiddie seat. I always had my hand there to keep it steady, and honestly didn't know it was dangerous because I see everyone else doing it. Good to know.

I get that, and as I mom, seeing that would make me twitch. I'm sure that would also bother formula feeding moms to see too. I just don't see the need to bring it to this board and then open the forum to judge other moms on every other possible aspect of parenting, regardless of whether it's the right parenting decision or not.

It's really not safe to forward face if they are younger than a year, regardless of the state laws.  People turn them around forward facing because their feet are touching the back of the seat.  but in a bad accident forward facing with a too young of baby without the muscle strength of back and neck they can be permanently paralyzed.  in a bad accident rear facing with a too young baby whose feet touch the back of the seat, their leg could possibly get broken, but the rear facing protects their back and neck froms serious injury.  So keep em rear facing as long as you can find a car seat to keep them rear facing.  we'd all be safer rear facing, but we can't drive that way.
Not sure if this was directed at me or not, but I just wanted to clarify that I responded with what the law was here, only because the poster thought FF before 1 was illegal everywhere. I am totally pro-RF and I know the benefits of RF and the risks of FF.

I just want to share these links concerning rearfacing. Forward facing before the age of 2 is entirely unsafe. Babies should rear face as close to age 4 as humanly possible. There are lots of cases of legs breaking in children who are forward facing. As far as I am aware, there are actually no reported cases of a properly restrained, rearfacing child breaking a leg in an accident.

I was doing the same as you in regards to the laws.

DD has always been in the 75% for her height and we still RF until 3.
  • Another benefit to baby wearing in a grocery store: I find it so much easier to get help from store employees and random customers. Extremely useful when I need to get something from the top shelf.

One local store has a flat platform in place of the child seat on the cart. It has straps to contain the car seat. I don't think its ideal, but better than attempting to click the sear to the cart.
