Help! My 8week old will NOT go to sleep until midnight and it's aboslutely killing me!
We have a bedtime routine: bath, lotion, jammies, nurse to lullaby cd and during that time she usually falls asleep on the boppy, so I lightly pick her up and burp her/pat her back, and then get up from the glider and way with her for 10 minutes or so until I'm convinced she's asleep and then put her in her crib... only for her to start crying, so then it's like we have to start it all over again because just picking her up and rocking/holding her doesn't put her back to sleep.
We've tried starting this whole routine at 7pm, 8pm and 9pm and no matter what time we start it at, she won't go down until between 11:30pm and 12:30am. What am I doing wrong? Help me! This is so stressful, I end up fighting back tears after several hours of this. The thing is, if we just let her stay up until closer to 11pm, she acts very tired, whiney and crying from 8pm on, so I don't know what to do.

Re: Help! 8week old DD will NOT go to sleep until midnight!
You're not doing anything wrong. My baby was the same exact way FOREVER. She started falling asleep early after she turned 2 months. Just keep doing the same routine. But do not do it if she is showing tired cues-just put her straight to bed.
How does she nap during the day? Have you tried letting her cat nap in the evening??
DD doesn't go to sleep for the night until 10:30-11pm. But she cat naps for a little while sometime in the evening. Probably at like 8ish or so. ?
I don't have much help for you other than to say it does get a little better over time. My DD was the same way except her self-determined bedtime was 3:00AM!!! for weeks and the only way I could get her to sleep was pushing her in her carseat/stroller. So for quite a few weeks that's where she slept and I slowly started earlier by about 10 minutes every night. At around 10-11 weeks, I started moving her to her pack n play after her first night feeding. Now she goes down directly in her pnp (most nights) anywhere between 10 and 11:30. I start back to work in 2 weeks, so I'm really hoping we can move her up to 9:00pm by then.
?
I know it's exhausting, but it will get better and know you're not alone
HTH!?
?
DD #1 passed away in January 2011 at 14 days old due to congenital heart disease
DD#2 lost in January 2012 at 23 weeks due to anhydramnios caused by a placental abruption
You are so not alone on this, in fact, I was just logging on to write the exact same post -- verbatum. Some nights DD will fall asleep perfectly and others it is a nightmare. Last night, a nightmare.
Thanks to all the others who posted answers to this. My DD does cat nap during the day and has usually one longish nap in the afternoon. It does get really stressful!
My dd did this to us too. Try putting her in her crib groggy - awake but groggy. I started with naps in the crib that way and then worked it up to night time sleeping.
I know everyone has said it but it will get better. My DD goes down at 9 now on her own thank god (she's 4 months)
PS - I've never let her CIO - she might whine but I've never let her all out cry I just couldn't.
