Laundry

J's clothes are getting all dingy from her crawling around because apparently I need to sweep and vacuum more :) Any tips on getting them out? Color-safe bleach? Some other concoction?

Re: Laundry

  • I've finally embraced my MIL's long held belief that powder detergent cleans better than liquid.  Also, Tide.  Also, OxyClean :)

  • I've just been using All Free and Clear since before Lily was born.  Took out a raspberry stain.  I never have to worry about poop stains.  I put a little on, let it sit, and then wash.

I do a mix of oxyclean powder, dawn dish soap, and laundry detergent in a bucket of water. It's my "poop bucket".

How much of each thing? How long do you let things soak?

@VASC How long do you let things soak?

@Steamboat1679 The dinge doesn't bother me all that much, but we're keeping everything for future babies and it'd be nice to have them all nice and clean and unstained again :)
  • Sadly, some stuff is never going to make it to be passed down.  With two boys people were like "Nice - you don't have to buy new clothes!"  Well, I don't have to buy ALL new clothes but some stuff never made it past Aiden and some stuff I've gotten Q now aren't making it to the resale pile :)

Never heard of it sticking, but I start the water going and then add the detergent and let it dissolve a bit, then add the clothes once there's a couple inches of water. That might help.

I love using shout on all of B's clothes -it even gets blueberries out of his clothes. I shout right after he wears it and right before I wash it
This is exactly what I do.

  • @mcbush‌ Does sun get out other stains? I use it all the time for poop stains. I tried it get berry stains out with sun once but it didn't work.
  • I use oxyclean stain remover spray on everything! I've been soaking M's stuff lately because she crawls around my parents' patio here and gets all dusty/dirty. There's shale in the dust because it blows off of the trail and that stuff is a real PITA to get out. But so far so good with the oxy and soaking. We even got a huge shale stain out of one of our A+A blankets (it dragged against the stroller wheel which was covered in wet shale... I thought for sure it was ruined)

  • You all have me convinced I need to try powder.

  • Thanks @kari5186

I just put Tide powder on my Sam's list :)
  • Just a PSA that Tide does have a free and gentle powder for any babies with sensitive skin. It's a little harder to find, but Target usually has some.

I am totally going to try powder detergent now.

I'd been having this issue (with both kids' clothes) that even after washed, they'd have weird dark spots left behind on the clothing - almost like oil stains? It doesn't make sense but I feel like it's residue of some sort...anyhoo, we use Tide or All Free and Clear for laundry, liquid.  Maybe the powder will resolve that issue.

This happens to us too @CTGirl30‌ mostly on light colored clothes
It's so frustrating!! I have no idea what causes it!
