Pregnant...Still Breastfeeding 15 Month Old

We just found out we're pregnant.  I was planning on doing baby led weaning (or until about 2 years old).  According to online calculators, I am about 5 weeks pregnant.  I'm pretty sure I am going to have to stop to allow colostrum (spelling) to develop, but is there a general rule when to stop breastfeeding when pregnant?

Re: Pregnant...Still Breastfeeding 15 Month Old

  • You can continue to breastfeed your older baby while pregnant as long as you're careful with water intake and nutrition. Some complications, such as preterm labor, might make it necessary to wean but that's the exception. Your body will still make colostrum for the new baby.

    Congratulations on your pregnancy!

  • I was able to breastfeed until I was about 16 weeks pregnant with DD2.  DD1 weaned herself at that time.

  • As the others have said you can continue to nurse.  I stopped nursing DD1 when I was about 14 weeks along with DD2 because I was miserably sick, and just couldn't do it anymore
  • You can keep nursing all the way through pregnancy and beyond. I nursed DD1 through pregnancy and we're still nursing occasionally.
