MWOB - did your SPD get suddenly worse just before labour?

So I've had SPD for months now. Makes me waddle a lot, painful when standing up, turning over in bed, getting up at night etc... Midwife / doctor have done nothing about it, just told me it was normal and to take paracetamol if it was really bad (which does very little for the pain). Only today I've woken up and it is ten times worse! Was almost impossible to walk anywhere today. Going upstairs was almost impossible. Keep crying out whenever i stand up or move at all. Went for hosp appointment to check BP and getting from the car inside was agony. Midwife said it was just normal because I'm getting towards the end now (38 weeks) but seemed strange that it so massively increased in such a sudden way. Anyone else have this? Wondered if it might be a sign that baby had dropped down or that labour might be impending?

  • I still have an inside baby but my SPD got drastically worse at around 37 weeks. Rolling over in bed at night has made me scream out in my sleep. My baby hasn't dropped yet but that could be what is causing yours to be worse.

    Now that you mention it, the last week or so before my induction it did seem to be more painful than usual. It certainly wasn't helped by my OB hiking my knees above my head during pushing! x.x;;;

    E: knees, not feet. I couldn't even get my feet above my head before pregnancy! XD

  • You can make yourself crazy reading into this stuff. It may be an increase of relaxin or baby dropping, but that doesn't mean labor will start tomorrow. It could still be awhile. Yes, spd sucks. But is IS normal and there ISNT anything they can do about it.

    I know. I have a c section scheduled anyway for a week's time because the baby is breech so its not like I'm on the edge of my seat watching for labour signs like some women but it was just so effin painful I am starting to worry about how I'm actually going to make it through the next week if this agony continues. It's just frustrating as I know they could have done loads of stuff like prescribe me painkillers or refer me to physio earlier and they didn't and now its too late to be if any use.

  • Mine has increased a lot in the last few days at almost 39 weeks now. Last time baby got stuck too low early and SPD got vicious I laid on my back and lifted my stomach to move LO off my pelvis and had DH put pressure on my pelvic bone to try to relieve some of the pain. It did end up working but that was weeks ago. Worth a try  maybe?
