And we have a little girl! Daddy could not be more smitten with her. Born at 4:01am on 4/11 at 39w 2d after 38 hours of contractions and 2 hours of pushing.
Had my 39 week appointment on 4/9 and my midwife stripped my membranes. I was at 3cm and 90% effaced. Started having contractions a couple hours after that, but nothing too bad so I stayed at work for a few hours. DH and I went for a couple of walks and at 9:30PM the midwife called us and wanted us to come in (we had already called her once). Well, those 10 hours of contractions didn't change anything so we ended up heading back home at midnight.
Needless to say I didn't sleep much, and contractions kept getting stronger but stayed 6-8 minutes apart. Fast forward to 1:00PM on 4/10 and my mom had come over and told me to straddle a chair, I figured why not. That caused even stronger contractions and brought them closer together. We went to the hospital an hour later, barely any change but they wanted to keep me for an hour to see what would happen. I was so worried about being sent home again and I kept thinking of Ina May's Guide to Childbirth and moaning through contractions to help open you up, so I tried it. When they checked again, I was at 4cm and totally effaced so I was admitted.
I wanted to go med free, but ended up getting morphine to help me rest between contractions since I hadn't really slept in over 24 hours and I was starting to get super tired. When they finally told me at 2AM that I could try pushing, I put all my effort into it. Honestly, I didn't even know I was pushing for 2 hours until someone told me. It didn't feel that long at all! At 4:01 we got to meet our baby girl, and both of our mothers were there too (not my original plan, but I wouldn't have it any other way now as the room was so large it still felt like just DH, DD, and I were the only 3 people in the world). We couldn't be any happier!
