hand pump recommendation

I've been using my Medela double pump for 6 months and love it but hate the hassle of bringing it out on date night or quick trips away from my DS. I've used the manual pump peices that were included with my Medela but find the repeatative pumping with my arm/hand annoying. I'm looking for an affordable hand pump to use on occasion and am wondering if anyone has any recommendations...Thanks!!

I used the medela harmony exclusively with my daughter.  Loved it!

  • I have both the Medela Harmony and the Lasinoh manual pump.  I prefer the Lasinoh pump because it seems like a simpler design and is easier to clean.

  • i bought the lansinoh manual pump to keep at home as a backup when i was still pumping (i left my medela PIS at work). i bought it based on its amazon reviews, which were better than the reviews for the medela manual pump. it's $25.99 now on amazon.

i can't say much beyond that, though, since i never actually had to use it. :)

  • Medela harmony. My LO eats from one side in the morning and I use the hand pump on the other side before I leave for work. I feel like it works quicker than my electric. I still use the PISA at work.

Another vote for Medela Harmony.  It works well and quickly.   I have used it in the car (not while driving ;) and in restrooms, etc. while out and away from my usual pump.   It is easy to fit in your handbag, just be sure to remember all the parts - that's the only issue I've had with it.  Just the other day I was out and went to use it and realized I had forgotten the lever!

  • I have the avent hand pump and I have been very happy with it. I ebf and bought it because it matched our bottles. I keep it in the diaper bag and when needed I pump right into the emergency bottle I always have with us. This has been useful when out and about the few times I was not comfortable nursing in public. When I use it I ignore the silicon petal cover for the pump horn, I found it an unnecessary addition.
