Chicco Nextfit Users come in.

I've had this seat since Christmas and just installed it in my car. Grayson's a small baby and I feel like the shoulder pads attached to the straps are massive and they have that non-slip grip on them that makes it very hard to adjust. I am having a hard time getting them right. Does it just take time to get used to or did I pay a ton of money for an annoying car seat?

Re: Chicco Nextfit Users come in.

  • The shoulder things can be a little annoying. We've gotten used to them and B loves this seat so much more than the infant seat. According to my husband sometimes you will tighten it really well but when you get where you're going it feels looser. Not sure if anyone else had this happen.

You can take them off. You don't HAVE to use them. You can also get replacements that are velcro and much more flexible.

Really?! That's what I was hoping to do but in the manual it said "never use the child restraints without shoulder pads." I wouldn't see how you have to have them but I thought that's what those things were called.

  • We have this seat and what I have started doing was pulling the shoulder straps and the chest clip down, tighten, move shoulder straps and chest clip up a little, tighten some more, then move them up the rest of the way. It's kind of a pain but I have gotten used to it.

  • @Lizzybizzy80, I feel that exact same way like I think it's tight and I go I get him out and it's too loose. I don't feel like I'm getting him in it safe.

  • We're going to try @CL8badB‌ 's method to see if that helps. Thank you for posting this, it got us talking about it. :)

  • I have a car seat sitting in the basement waiting for mister to outgrow his key fit. Do the new shoulder pads make it easier to tighten? @mcbush
  • So it would be safe to remove those PITA pads and just use my thinner Velcro ones I already have? Paging @elmoali‌!

  • Ill try the @CL8badB‌ method but that sounds like a lot of work!

I dont think that you should add alternate velcro pads that arent supplied by chicco.
ETA maybe contact chicco and see if they will send you a set.

  • Thanks ladies I will try that tomorrow!

  • @mcbush is right - you can't add aftermarket straps but you can get the smaller ones from Chicco :)

  • I just had mine installed last night at the local police station. They do it once a month. It seems like the button to loosen the straps is really smooshed against the seat. It's hard to get to. Is this true for everyone or did they do something wrong?

  • Chicco now says it's safe without the shoulder pads. I say it wasn't safe with them because it wasn't possible to get it tight with them.

Here's their statement and how to remove them. I've been perfectly happy with the seat once removing them.

  • The manufacturer date is on the bottom of the box on a sticker. You are looking for oct 13 or later for the new pads.
  • Do they make the replacement pads for every color seat they have? My OCD won't allow me to have different colored pads. They must be the red ones lol

  • @ColieAnn31‌ I'm sure they do because they are on all the new seats.

Yes you can! Like others have said, Chicco retroactively stated that you can now remove the straps. You can also contact them and order their new velcro strap covers. Just call or email them from their contact info on their website.
