Should I?

Be stocking up on diapers and wipes?

I have a luxe wish list, so maybe I should.

STMs and whoever else, what are your thoughts?

Re: Should I?

  • I personally wouldn't too much. You might find one brand of diapers works best on your baby and you really won't know until they get here. Same thing goes for wipes. You'll definitely have your favorite brands. I got a pretty good variety of diapers/wipes at my showers so that was all the "stocking up" I needed.

  • I'm planning to start buying some this weekend.  A box or two a month seems reasonable but not overwhelming.

  • I wouldn't just because you never know how LO will grow.  I made the mistake of stocking up with DS and we ended up with leftover diapers in sizes NB-2 because he literally shot up like a weed during the first few months.  It was too late to take them back so I ended up donating quite a few to a friend with a baby several months younger than mine. I'm all for a good sale though.  I wouldn't recommend buying more than 2 boxes of each size, especially NB.

  • Sounds good. Maybe I'll just stash money to the side..
  • We found size 1-2 diapers super cheap at sam's club when I was pregnant with ds. I bought two huge boxes which was like 500 diapers. They leaked everytime my son wore them, so they were a complete waste. :( target brand has worked for my dd and ds so I have bought a few of those but not too many. My ds never fit in newborn diapers and was only in size 1 for a week or two.

    I wouldn't either. Unless there is a deal going you really aren't saving money--you are just spending the money now instead of 6 mo this from now. If I were you, I would look for some good deals at whatever stores you like to shop and stock up that way. Most stores will let you exchange for different brands and sizes (but be sure to have receipts).

  • I agree with PPs that said to buy gift cards instead if you want to spread put the cost. I am an Amazon mom/prime member and buy all my diapers and wipes and a lot of other household items from Amazon.

    We started putting away what we will end up paying in daycare costs + 200 away this month. It will help us get used to the additional costs of a baby and build our nest egg. Mostly because I am taking an extra 10 weeks of unpaid time off, on top of my 16 weeks of paid maternity leave.

  • I think I am just going to start stock piling gift cards set aside for diapers. I never know what size they will be. My oldest was 7 pounds 2 oz and grew very slow. We were in newborns over a month and 1's and 2's forever! He is 3.5 and fits in the same size (not that he is in them) my now 18 month old is in.

    My now 18 month old was 7 pounds even and was in newborn about a month and 1's like 1 or 2 boxes... zoomed through 3 and 4 and has been in 5's forever

    You just don't know how they will grow.

    @ladybostonrn I haven't purchased a thing either.
  • We didn't stock pile and we did not receive any at our baby shower.  The hospital sent us home with a ton of newborn diapers and by the time we were almost out I was so desperately ready to get out of the house it was a good excuse to go to the store.  Once we settled on a brand we just used Amazon subscribe and save. I hate lugging diaper boxes and wipes.

  • I wouldnt. Im sure you will get a lit at your shower, but to stock up too mych might be a waste of money. DD leaked or blew out of Huggies diapers a lot, and she gets diaper rash if I use huggies wipes.

    I would buy gift cards when you are at the store and set them aside exclusively to use for diapers and wipes.
