Dear Grocery Store Clerk.....

Please refrain from commenting on the cost of my goceries. I don't fucking care home much my steak and grapes cost. I want steak and grapes ok. And since I don't raise cattle or have a vineyard in my backyard looks like this is my only option. Shouldn't this be basics of cashier training....don't point out when the customer is getting hosed? Rant over....PS my "oh that's an expensive" steak was tasty.... :D

  • Lol. I've gotten those too at times. They just like to make conversation. We all notice when people buy things we don't usually. Last time I noticed the person behind me with a ton of those $1 Banquet meals. I kept my mouth shut and didn't say "oh, those are cheap."

True. I just hate being reminded I paid $10 for a bunch of grapes...lol. I just smiled and nodded politely and said "oh yes" about the steaks.....while thinking rude comments in my mind. I probably would do the same to pass the time.
  • That's horrible! People are so stupid sometimes, there's other ways to make small talk....

  • Maybe they were just socially awkward? Lol glad you enjoyed your steak and grapes!

I worked in retail for 8 years & not once did I comment on a customer's purchase, especially the prices! 8-|

Only if something was an awesome deal.

  • Sometimes they ask me if something is yummy or tell me that they also love whatever it is. Women like to comment on pastries and other sweets. Men have showed shock over the cost of organic food. I just tell them I buy less, but I like high quality. One time a guy made a comment about my total. I think it was well over $250 for just food. Ehhh...

  • Actually, my favorite conversation at check out was with a high school senior who told me he knocked up his girlfriend. He spilled everything. I should have told him to go lay down on the bench and tell me about his relationship with his mother and then sent him a bill.

  • I don't usually get chatty cashiers, but one time when ds was like 10 months, the cashier commented on ds's amber teething necklace. The guy couldn't have been more than 20, and I was actually baby wearing ds, and he wouldn't shut up about how unsafe he thought it was and that ds was going to strangle himself to death wearing it. I just eventually stopped talking. I wish I would have complained.

I don't mind if they comment of using a product, like oh never tried that or they have used it and like it. Also good with saying it's a good deal. It happens alot around here that you get a clerk that comment on something being pricey. Maybe they get alot of complaints? Produce and fresh food is expensive. I am feeling more charitable today. lol.
