Clogged ducts/drying up my milk

Hi ladies,  after some long talks with lots of people i have decided that its not in the best interest of my family to keep breastfeeding and pumping. I have weighed this decision back and forth for awhile and i wasnt even sure if i was going to do either when he was born in the first place. My issue is that while i was breastfeeding and pumping both of my breasts got clogged ducts. I have been trying to unclog them for days now and it is not working. Can I just dry them up instead? I have no clue on this and was planning on drying them up once they were unclogged to begin with. Any helpful advice would be greatly appreciated. I'm only getting about 3oz every 3hours total right now i just want to go about it the right way. TIA!

  • Yes that is 3oz total from both sides. It isn't about not getting the supply bc I know I could get more but that it just is not working out for baby, family, and I. I'm proud that I was able to provide any to him as I know some moms can't do any period and I'm trying to not beat myself up about it.

  • i have always heard it is NOT recommended to wean while you have a blocked duct or mastitis- it just worsens the problem and could lead to a breast abscess that might require surgery. you might want to see your OB/care provider or talk to a LC to figure out the best way to get your clogged ducts taken care of and then start gradually weaning once that is are resolved.

I second this advice- my doctor told me the worst thing I could do during mastitis would be to wean. Congrats on making a difficult decision for you and your family, good luck with the weaning !
