pressure in the back

I've been getting  a lot of pain in the lower back...but it's not constant.  It seems to be the only way to relieve the pain is if I pee.  Is this normal?  It's more now that my back is telling me when I have to pee rather than my bladder.  And it will hit suddenly.

  • Yes, you're having a baby.

Everything's so squished around in there that half the time I have no idea what hurts anymore ... but, like pretty much every "is this normal" question, ask your doctor if you're concerned.

Is the back pressure/pain in any sort of pattern/timeable?
In our labor/childbirth class we were told that back pain/pressure can be a sign of early labor.

If you aren't sure you can always call your doc to discuss.
So I've been in labour since first tri? Damn. That must be a new record!

It sounds normal and is probably related to the baby's position if you get relief when you pee. But like PPs said, if you are concerned, ask your doctor.

Funny you said this. I was having some general discomfort and stomach pains so called to makes sure it didn't sound like anything of concern and of course when it was time to actually try to explain the pains to the nurse, I really had no idea what actually hurt. Everything from neck to kneecaps feels uncomfortable at this point.

Yeah... no... I never said it is absolutely labor... it can be a sign of labor... they talked about it in our childbirth class that it's common for women to experience back pain/pressure in early stages of labor and if you get any patterned/timeable back pain/pressure - especially if new and/or later in pregnancy - to call your OB/midwife to discuss.

I highly doubt you have been in labor since first trimester... no record broken...
Yeah, I got that. It was meant to be a joke because I have had lower back pain since 1st trimester. It's sciatic, I know it's not labour.
