Rivers...?

I heard this name at a birthday party last weekend (boy) and for some odd reason it is starting to grow on me. I actually like it. Would you consider Rivers as strictly a boys name or it can it be used for a girl as well. What is your opinion? Boys name or Unisex?

I love just River with no s.

Actually River is my boy name that I reeeeeally want and have wanted for years but S/O isn't sold, so it's going to be the middle name.

I don't mind it on a girl, although it sounds more masculine to me...I can't decide.

I love Lake for a girl.

I really love most nature names but Rivers is no good. River...maybe for a boy definitely not for a girl.

All I can think of is River Song (a female character) from Doctor Who. NMS for either boy or girl though.

I like it as a girl name too but I associate it with River Tam from Firefly.

And River, obviously, not Rivers.

Rivers should not be placed on a human being.

Rivers = no

The only time I've heard River as a name was a quiet strange character on Firefly.

I could imagine a River but I would side eye it real hard

I've heard River (no s) on a boy. Though there is a female character on Doctor Who is named River.

But I don't like it regardless.

Yeah, it just reminds me of the actor River Phoenix. Their family had names like that. I never really thought much about it sounding out of place.

Ditto the Doctor Who reference. It's the only association I have, so I think girl. Adding the "s" on the end is no good.

From pop culture, I know River as both a boy and girl name. River Phoenix for a boy, and River Tam and River Song for girls. And then Rivers Cuomo for a boy as far as Rivers goes.

I don't mind Rivers. And I actually like River... For either sex... But it's been growing on me for a girl--first via Firefly, then a friend of mine used it for her daughter (with the mn Irene)... I was shocked at first, then got used to it, and now really like it.
