My daughter is 13 months old. I work full time, so she's been in daycare since she was 3 months old. She's been walking since 10 months, so she got moved up to the waddlers class at 11 months instead of 1 year. This is her third class. Both times she's moved up, it's taken her several weeks to adjust to her new surroundings and to her new teachers. Once she does, she's fine, and she thrives. So she's been in her current class for 2 months, now. Yesterday, one of her teachers told me that my DD has been acting "strange" at school. She acts very scared and gets upset if any other adults other than her teachers try and interact with her. I was told she'll either go hide in a corner or run up to her teachers with her arms up, asking to be picked up. Her teacher also said that she's acting afraid of certain new toys in the classroom that make noise. Other than that, her teacher says she's doing wonderfully - sleeps well, plays well with others, eats well, etc. Is this behavior something I should be concerned about, or is her little personality just coming out? Maybe she's just a reserved child. She's a joy at home, and my husband and I haven't noticed any changes in her behavior when she's with us. I'm sure I'm just overanalyzing the whole situation.
Re: "Strange" Behavior at DC
Most of them are her old teachers that she doesn't see on a day to day basis anymore. It's always taken her a few weeks to adjust to new folks, but then she's fine.
I asked them this morning at drop off how they handle it when she gets upset. I was told they pick her up and comfort her. I also asked that they tell whatever adult is making her upset to leave her alone and respect that she doesn't want to interact with them. Her teachers said they do this, and that they never push her into situations that she doesn't like.
