Inspired by this week's FFFC thread:

How often, if ever, do you take LO out past his/her typical bedtime, and how does it affect his/her sleep?

We take LO out after bedtime all the time, and it doesn't really affect his/her sleep.

We never take LO out after bedtime because he/she would most likely sleep poorly if we did.

Re: Babies' Night Out

  • Never. It's not worth the risk. Plus, I'm a major homebody, so if I can use it as an excuse to not go out I will :)

  • SS.  We occasionally take him out past his bedtime.  Maybe two or three times a month.  It actually positively affects his sleep.  When we keep him out late, he doesn't have any problem being put down when we get home and will often STTN.

Of course my child is a little odd, he sleeps better when he is teething, too.
  • We rarely do and it doesn't seem to affect his sleep. The only recent time I can think of was for a wedding an hour away. He fell asleep there, slept the way home and stayed asleep once we put him in his crib. Also, his bedtime is 9pm and we don't really stay out that late anyway. This family needs lots of sleep.

We have a little night owl.  The only thing that makes her grumpy at night is putting on her pajamas.  Until that happens, she's up for pretty much anything.  We don't stay out late, but missing bedtime by an hour or so is not a big deal for her.

We will take him out at least a couple times a month past his bedtime, but it doesn't affect his sleep at all.
  • The few times we were out late I have put her to bed at her usual time in her stroller. After some walking she fell asleep and was easy to transfer to the crib when we got home.

  • Ditto that it doesn't affect his sleep but he melts down.  When he's ready for bed, he's READY and you better get him there pronto lol

  • We rarely took him out past his bedtime up until last week. Now Game of Thrones has started and we've watched it at our best friends' house since season 1. We don't have HBO. Last week we just brought him in his pjs and he fell asleep on me by 9:15. Hopefully this weekend will be just as easy.

  • He's out past his bedtime a couple times a month. Tonight we went to DHs grandma's for supper about 45 min away. L had a cat nap on the way and was able to stay up longer than his normal 7-7:30 bedtime. We take his pj's and give him his bedtime bottle while we're out. He'll fall asleep on the way home and has no problem staying asleep or falling back to sleep once we're home. I doubt he'd fall asleep at someone else's house while there were lots of people around. He's too nosey for that.

  • We very rarely take her out after bedtime. She is a mess in the evenings and I don't want to deal with that out in public.

  • We are always home by bedtime because like other pp LO turns into a monster around 7pm.

  • I don't usually do it, but since we have been playing the retired life here with grandpa in Arizona a lot of the neighbours have been inviting us over for dinner. Sometimes she's good, sometimes she has a melt down. I'm always within walking distance of the house so if she's doing well I stay for supper/dessert, if she's losing it we come home and go to bed. Her actual sleep is never affected by staying up late.
