Pregnant after IF

Do you think your pets know?

So I am still really early in this process, but I have a basset hound who has all the sudden become super clingy to me within the last week.  She is constantly by my side and as soon I sit down she is right next to me with her head in my lap.  I have been wondering if she can sense something is different.

Have your pets acted any differently?  Do you think they sense a change?

Re: Do you think your pets know?

  • Yes! Since we were 5 weeks or so our dog seems to have been more clingy and treating @manada differently. She gets more upset than normal when M goes to the back of the apartment (the cat's territory, where the dog is not allowed). Over the last few weeks she has started refusing to go into her crate when we leave or at night. We have allowed her to graduate from the crate as a result.
    ****loss discussed*****

We're queer. I'm 33, have severe stage 4 endo, and had both fallopian tubes removed. My love ("Manada" on the boards, 32) was diagnosed with diminished ovarian reserve. We did Partner IVF (my eggs, her uterus). We lost our twins Tavin and Casey at 21 weeks gestation.

    Our IUIs
with @Manada: IUI# 1-7 (December 2012- September 2013) all BFN. Tried natural, femara, clomid, puregon/follistim, clomid and menopur combo, both the ovidrel and HCG triggers.

    Our IVFs:
IVF #1 my eggs November/December 2013: Cancelled IVF due to poor response

    IVF #2 my eggs/Manada's uterus January/February 2014
BCPs and lupron overlap Stimmed: 1/22-2/2: Bravelle and Menopur (dosage ranged from B300 and M150 to B375 and M150 to B300 and M225)
2/4 retrieved 10 eggs. Endo was much worse than expected. Only 3 eggs fertilized; February 7 transferred two day 3 embryos, froze one. All great condition.
    BFP eve of 6dp3dt; Beta 1 (11dp3dt): 110; Beta 2 (13dp3dt): 175; Beta 3 (15dp3dt): 348; Beta 4 (19dp3dt): 2222; Beta 5 (21dp3dt): 4255
    1st ultrasound (3/6  6w 1d): TWINS!!!! Twin A measuring 6w1d with a heartbeat of 118bpm. Twin B measuring 6w0d with a heartbeat of 113bpm.

***July 18, 2014 we lost our beautiful babies at 21 weeks gestation. They were born too early. Tavin Sara T. and Casey Elizabeth T. are beautiful and precious and we will love them and miss them forever.***

    FET #1 December 2014
Intralipid infusion on Dec 10. Transfer of 1 day 3 nine-cell embryo into my uterus on Dec. 19. (acupuncture immediately before and after)
    BFP on Dec. 27; Beta 1 Jan 2 (14dp3dt): 665, Beta 2 Jan 4 (16dp3dt): 1859, Beta 3 Jan 6 (18dp3dt): 4449, Beta 4 Jan 10 (22dp3dt): 12,251.

  • Yes, I think pets can sense a change! It is interesting because we have two cats - one is my cat, while the other is my husband's. However, my kitty seems to be particular in tune with me. She has gotten much more clingy (in bed and curls up next to me - she is normally a between the legs cat) and loves sitting on my tummy (something she rarely did before). The sitting on the tummy, I'm not a big fan of because kitty you are just adding to the pressure on my bladder. My husband's cat doesn't seem that much interested/changed but I don't think we have the same connection as my kitty. I think it is funny how one seems to be in tune while the other one could careless. But defintely curious to see what others have to say about their pets!

  • My dog is usually really receptive by being extra sweet and clingy when I'm sad or depressed and that's been awesome through our struggles with infertility and loss. But as far as now that I'm pregnant, he doesn't seem to be any different at all. In fact, he's jumped on me a few times while I'm sitting on the couch so now I'm on guard with him a lot. It's a problem when you have 50 pounds of brindle, bully, love coming at your midsection! Guess he still hasn't gotten the memo. :)

He's a mutt. :) But we think he's basset/English bull terrier (like the target dog) with maybe a sprinkle of Schnauzer. He's one of a kind, that's for sure! What he lacks in common sense, he makes up for with sweetness. :-D I love bullies!

  • Mine hasn't caught in either. Still same as he usually is with being near me, just no more than usual. He is I'm for such a big surprise with two screaming kiddos!!

  • My dog is super sensitive to when I'm sick so I think that's why she has been clingy. I don't think she knows there is a baby in there causing my sickness. My dog responds to our names like mommy daddy and she even knows Grammy and grandpa so we have been trying to tell her about her little brother but she probably thinks I'm crazy.
  • My dog is already clingy and extra cuddly, so I'm not sure if he can sense anything.  All I know is that his world is going to get turned upside down in almost 7 months :)

  • I for sure think our female Dobie knows! She has been guarding me from really early on, not something she did as much or often before, and is always following me around. Our 2 male dogs don't seem to have changed at all, but one has just turned 1 so I don't think he knows any better.

  • I think they can sense hormonal changes. Like those dogs that can sense when their diabetic owners blood sugar is out of whack? My babes are super sensitive to my moods anyway, so they're really onto something now!
  • My pup is usually clingy and overly affectionate, but since becoming pregnant, he's definitely upped his cling game! He always wants to come lay on the couch with me and rests his head on my belly (which he never would do. He would usually lay next to me with his head snuggled on my chest or neck) or he randomly comes up to me and just sniffs my belly. It's so odd, but sweet at the same time! He's going to make such a great big "brother" :)

  • Oh definitely. My puppy is very clingy and his mama boy syndrome escalated to full on minion status. My other dog who normally is just "eh" towards me now loves me.

They don't care for the bump so much though, they try to sit on my lap and get frustrated when they can't get comfortable :)

  • I am the opposite of everyone else!  My older dog who normally would love to snuggle and sleep ON me now wants no part of snuggling on the couch.  Both follow me around where ever I go but that is usually food related!

  • I don't have dogs, but we do have two cats.  I'm kinda torn about whether they know or not.  The night before I got my BFP, my cuddly cat crawled under the covers and curled up right in my belly nook.  It was very strange.  She usually cuddles, but she made a point to get under the blankets and be as close to my belly as she could.  Then the next morning I got my BFP!  But she hasn't done anything like that since....so idk.  She does tend to cuddle with me more recently, but she's normally a cuddly cat, so it could just be that.  The other cat, no way, she hates me anyway hahaha.  She's a daddy's girl cat even though I had both of them before I even met DH.
