Trouble TTC

Drinks during 2WW

I'm normally pretty good about this, but I'm so sick of putting my life on hold for something that may never happen. I had two celebratory drinks with staff for the end of term this afternoon & I'm feeling really guilty. What is your opinion on drinking during the 2ww? I know it would be worth abstaining but I feel like I've been putting my life on hold for years & I'm over it.

Re: Drinks during 2WW

  • Most people say drink till it's pink. In other words, don't worry about until you get a BFP. I'm not a huge drinker so it's not a problem for me, but I wouldn't worry if I were you. Enjoy life.

  • At one point I had completely stopped drinking in the 2WW, but as you say, there's only so long you can put your life on hold. I was miserable.  Now, I allow myself a few drinks here and there.  Honestly, it makes me feel so much better to be able to enjoy a night out with DH or friends once in a while.

  • I'm not a big drinker, so it doesn't really matter to me.  But I'll have a couple of drinks even if I am in my 2WW.

  • I with the PP. Within moderation, it's no big deal (until a BFP, obviously). Enjoy!
Me: 31 DH: 43 Married May 2010 TTC Since Jan 2013 Abnormally irregular and long cycles 35-60 days First RE Appointment Feb 2014 All basic tests normal March 2014: Clomid 50 mg - responded with one mature follicle
  • I drink until it's pink, then again I don't go crazy drinking until cd1. My RE told me while I'm stimming no alcohol but in my 2ww I have a glass of wine or 2 and maybe even a mimosa if I have brunch.
    Fucking bump!!!!
  • I don't think that there's anything wrong with having a drink or two in the 2WW.  Lots of women get their drink on.
Married on October 20, 2012.  Began trying in January 2013.
RE appointment & testing December 2013 - February 2014= Unexplained IF, possible endometriosis
IUI#1- March 22 (100mg clomid, 75 mg of Bravelle, Ovidrel trigger) = BFP!!!

  • I feel free to have 1 or 2 drinks at a time after AF comes, and maybe 1 drink total in a 2WW if there is a social function. I do think it is a logical choice to choose just not to drink, but I am kind of a laid back person and don't like giving myself rules just to have rules if that makes sense. This cycle I had 7 drinks over 3 days while traveling (not in 2WW) and I think it wouldn't do any more harm to my follicle development than the lack of sleep or sitting on an airplane for 8 hours etc.

I have a wedding tomorrow - right before O time - and I feel fine having a glass of wine, but that will be it.

  • I feel guilty sometimes when I drink during the 2ww too.  But my friend was drinking during her 2ww and she got pregnant and so have so many others.  How many people have gotten pregnant on their honeymoon when they were drinking or during one night stands, etc.  I know we're a little different because we're not as fertile, so I think it is good to abstain as much as possible just as it is good to eat healthy, but you're right.  We put our lives on hold for so long and nothing happens!  Maybe go for a little bit to drink to feel good, then take a break.  That's what I'm doing.  If this 2ww ends in BFN I think I'm going to be really strict again for awhile then take a break.

    Best wishes!

    This is so true.

I'm in team drink (in moderation) til it's pink. I haven't had an IUI yet so I'll see how I feel then. I gave up alcohol for lent and honestly I miss my wine.

You're welcome. :) I'm not a wino but I told H if I get pg this cycle I'm going to regret giving up alcohol for lent. That sounds really bad... The flip side is based off of start of my cycle the due date would be Hs birthday.

  • I'm so glad this was posted! I just had my first IUI 4/8 and am in my first real 2ww... I normally have a glass of wine at night and more on weekends socially.  I've debated about what to do during the 2ww and decided to reign it back a little but not put my life on hold as others have mentioned.  Personally, I've had a glass of wine two nights with dinner and today we are going to a bbq with friends and I'll probably have 2 glasses of wine.

As others have said, most people don't have a "conscious" 2ww but we are all in a different boat going through medicated cycles and fertility treatments so it's hard not to overthink everything (at least for me) :-)

We went to a "dog friendly" restaurant today after getting my hairs did with the new pup and I was SOOOOOOO tempted to get a beer. They have really delicious craft beer. I didn't though. DH is sweet & doesn't drink either. But damn if I didn't think it would jinx me, I would.

  • Drink til it's Pink (but don't go crazy!). I don't drink much, so its not a big deal to avoid it in the 2ww for me, but that doesn't mean that I won't have one here and there. I think in some countries it's considered OK for pregnant women to have an occasional drink, a couple in the 2ww shouldn't be a big deal :)
