Success after IF

Schedules

I am going to try to start getting my boys on some type of schedule-right now they are very on demand with feeding and sleeping , still following a newborn schedule of every 2,5-3 hours including through the night. Any ideas on how to start? They are 13 weeks, 9 adjusted.
Me (37) DH (39); PCOS changed to Unexplained, changed to DOR in 2012 (finally a correct diagnosis!);
Started TTC 2009 with RE after 6 months.
Clomid + Trigger x2;
IUI + Femara x1,
IUI + Follistim x2;
IVF #1 (MDL) February 2013- BFN.
IVF #2 (antagonist) May 2013, First BFP of my life.
Identical twin miracle BOYS (!!) headed our way- due date is technically 2/4/14 but c section is scheduled for 1/7!

Re: Schedules

  • So eating two hours during the day then a 5 hour stretch and back to three? If so the night sounds normal to me. If anything I would just stretch out day feeds by an hour. How is their weight at this point?

    Married: 5/09 ~ TTC Since: 10/10 ~ PCOS ~ Progesterone from 10/10 - 2/11 ~ HSG on 3/18 - Clear ~ Started Metformin 1000mg & Clomid 50mg 2/11 ~ Metformin upped to 1500mg 4/6 ~ 6/7 Now going to SG and put on Clomid, Ovidrel, Gonal F, Prometrium, Estrace ~ IUI #1 7/2 = BFP!!!!!! March 6th our little man was born.

    6/17/13 - Ovidrel, Follistim, Prometrium ~ IUI #1 7/2 = BFP! March 17th our St. Pattys day baby arrived

    10/29/17 - Started process for IVF, got pregnant & miscarried a 2nd time since summer. 2/22 started stims - Menopur, Gonal F, Cetrotide - retrieval 3/6 - , PIO, estrace 3xday - FET 4/18 = Beta 1: 616; Beta 2: 1342 = BFP

  • Loading the player...
  • That sounds right. My twins were still eating about every 3 hours at that point, with one longer stretch during the night. I would try to move them from every 2 to every 3 hours during the day as PP suggested.

  • That sounds about normal for my boys too. They'd wake, eat for about 30 min, stay awake for another 30-45 and go back to sleep. At night, we did diaper change, eat, swaddle and back down. We stopped rocking them back to sleep around 8w. We extended to 4 hours at night around 3 mos, but only after the pedi said we didn't have to wake them. I'm not sure when they would have done it if we hadn't been waking them to eat.

    The first 4 mos are the toughest with twins and you are so close!! You are doing a great job and you should be seeing those longer sleeping periods come along very soon!

  • I'm sorry it's so hard right now- I remember those days well. Like PPs said, this sounds very normal to me, and I wouldn't be comfortable trying to extend the times between feedings at 13 weeks/ 9 adjusted. DS was definitely not going more than 2.5 hours between feedings at that age- it was more like 2 hours. Maybe get your pedi to weigh in?

  • Thanks ladies- I am hearing a ton about other babies their age sleeping 5-8 hours per night and can't imagine that. That should have been 2 1/2 not 2,5. Sorry for confusion.

    I would say that is the exception, not the rule. And it makes people who aren't so lucky feel like they are doing it wrong. But you're not. Every baby is different and most babies at that age are going to wake up overnight. Hugs mama. You're doing great. You'll get through this.

    I agree with TJ 100%! Have you ever tried browsing the Baby Sleep Site? I found it to be particularly helpful in helping me get insight into different schedules for different lifestyles and ages. I loved it when we were trying to get on a good schedule of solids and bottles. Also, I found the site to be very non- judgy and realistic. Their approach is that many (but not all) babies need to eat in the middle of the night until 9 months. That was very comforting to me when other moms compared their children. My boys weaned away from the night feeding by themselves, but one of the boys needed my comfort around 4 am until after his first bday.

    All babies are different and I tend to believe STTN has little to do with "good" parenting and everything to do with the individual baby.
