Care to discuss?

Victim in yesterday's school stabbing posted a selfie at the hospital. People are saying it was disrespectful to the other victims and makes light of the situation. Others are saying he pulled the fire alarm for fame.

Wdpt?

  • I don't know what to think. While I think it's not the best thing to do I think he is a teen used to sharing on social media. I don't think he means to offend anyone.

  • I thought it was a little bit off, if I am being honest, but I agree his intent was not to offend.

  • And he was actually hurt so it's not like he was just posting from the waiting room.

I don't give two shits if he takes a selfie in the hospital. Good grief people look for every little thing to get outraged over.
No he pulled it so that authorities would come sooner.

I do think in general that teenagers (and other people) go overboard with the selfies. I was just thinking this morning about what people will think about it 20 years from now. But anyway, I don't think this selfie is unusual, offensive, or meant to make light of the situation.

I am not bothered by his selfie at all. As someone else said, teens are AWs and they know no life before social media. I teach high school, and if those kids go to the hospital for any little thing, they wear the hospital bracelet to school for days for attention.

This kid not only pulled the fire alarm, but jumped in between the attacker and another student, pushing that student out of the way. He can post all the selfies he wants.

  • What a stupid thing to get mad about, it does sound like he was a hero and anyone that thinks he's just out for fame has some issues of their own.

  • I do not understand the selfie hate and how selfies equal disrespect. If his parents had taken a picture of him would the reaction be the same?

    Team leave the kid alone.

Saying he pulled the fire alarm for fame is in much poorer taste than a teen taking a selfie. He meant to harm, IMO.

ETA: if he really had time to process what was going on and think, "I'm going to be famous" before he pulled the alarm & protected those girls... Fuck he earned it.
  • The people bitching about this selfie is what is making him famous for it. If they had not brought it up on a national level we wouldn't have seen it.

  • People need to pull the stick out of their ass and get over it. This kid is a hero. End of story.
