white spots on teeth?

LO has only two teeth that came in when he was around 6 months old.  Today I noticed a tiny white spot in near his gum on one tooth.  Everything I read says this is caused by too much fluoride??  I haven't started giving him fluoride yet, and we have well water so no fluoride in our water.  I brush his teeth before bedtime.  Just wondering if anyone else has noticed this or knows what it's from??

milk teeth? Could be cause by milk pooling in your childs mouth, and cause decay.

  • I thought of that..but thought it was caused from them falling asleep w bottle in their mouth?? he is bf

  • does he spit up a lot, or throw up a lot? It could be caused by that as well.

  • hmm..not really :/  he never even spit up much as an infant.
  • I grew up on well water and have 2 small little white spots on my teeth. A dentist told my mother it was from the well water.
My mother started boiling our water and then putting it in the fridge when my sister was born, and my sister doesn't have the same problem.

My dentist  recommends a first check up at 1, and since all these babies are getting closer to that age, I would show your dentist at the appointment and see if they have any recommendations.
  • Yea, since your water doesn't have fluoride, if could be from that. My pedi specifically asked if our water was treated with fluoride, and I said yes, and she agreed that having fluoride (in water) this young was a good thing.

  • thanks @WorkinIt  I tried getting a picture, that was a fail haha.  I guess I will show it to his pedi and see what she says.  Do you see them often???
  • DS has what sounds very similar and our dentist said it's just a weak spot in the enamel from when his teeth formed. At first we were just supposed to watch it but now that he is three they told us to use some Act mouthwash on his teeth at night. We just brush it on since he can't be trusted to not swallow it.
