Storm in a D-cup: bring on the “extreme” breastfeeding
The infamous naked breastfeeding yoga mamma has had to defend the image, claiming it wasn't staged. And she has support, 'extreme breastfeeding'... it's a thing.
Who remembers this amazing photo of Amy Woodruff and daughter Naia, shared on Amy’s blog -Daughter of the Sun, that went viral back in 2011?
The image at the time got mixed reviews. Not all of them pleasant. It’s getting some fresh attention and Amy is once again explaining that the image wasn’t staged.
Amy explains: “The truth is we were living on a small community in Hawaii where our land was clothing optional and yoga was/is a necessity! I was just doin’ my daily flow when the little sweet pea came to sneak a suckle. Papa had her out in the grass with him and she just couldn’t resist! This happens all the time by the way. When a breast is out and baby is around, they are going to try and get it anyway they can!”
It seems she’s right. Women have always had to feed their babies, it’s not always going to happen where you had planned, that’s obvious. But now, thanks to images like Amy’s ‘Extreme breastfeeding’ is being celebrated on the web in a big way.
The Breastfeeding Project, a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to providing breastfeeding education and support, has collected a series of ‘Extreme Nursing’ images on their site. Let’s just say, these images make me long to breastfeed even more than I did before.
Karen Andriola from The Breastfeeding Project told Kidspot: “The idea behind the extreme breastfeeding gallery was just to generate some excitement about breastfeeding and to have fun. We all had pictures of ourselves breastfeeding in funny or silly locations and we had all experienced the “breastfeeding gymnastics” that go with breastfeeding a toddler. We ran a competition where mums sent us their extreme breastfeeding pictures and then we had our fans vote for their favourite on Facebook. “Suck it Cancer” was the winner. We are planning to run a second competition in September, fans can like us on Facebook to keep up to date on the details.”
“In the middle of shooting photos for my blog post about working out with your baby my daughter got rather fussy. Killed two birds with one stone: took care of my girl’s needs and worked out my core muscles!”
What a cool article. I hadn't seen those pics before. I'm not sure I'm gutsy enough to actually pose for anything like that but I can certainly relate to toddler BF'ing gymnastics. G loves to bend in the weirdest shapes while eating.
Also Zara, I hate my D/DD cups. I'd love to go back to my pre-pregnancy Bs.
My prenatal yoga instructor was telling about this breastfeeding yoga lady. I can totally picture E coming in for a snack if I were doing anything naked. I'm very modest though and never would, but good for her! I'll never be a D either. My glorious pregnancy and nursing boobs just fill a B.

DH asked me the other day what I'll do if DS1 wants to nurse when he sees DS2 doing it. I highly doubt it will happen since he never nursed before (screaming little turkey), but I have no idea what to do if it does.
I will nurse my boy to sleep then lay him next to me. He then needs to nurse again, and will cry if I don't let him (but less than if I put him in his PNP).

Yep little man is all about the boobies if he sees one he wants to eat now! I miss my Cs busting out of an E cup is not cool when you are trying to work out and running straight up sucks.
@unaveragejane I was told to let the toddler try. Usually they will decide it wasn't really what they wanted after all.
Colton asked one time and I told him no. When you were a baby you had your turn and now it's Harper's turn. He never asked again. I know it's judgy but breastfeeding an older toddler grosses me out. Sorry if this offends anyone but that's just me

I'm with ya on the grossing me out thing but to each their own. My cousin is due with another and had been trying to explain to her little girl about baby things and she wasn't grasping the part about feeding the baby. Well her girl was curious when she saw me feeding H and explained to her that mama's make special food for the baby and that only the baby could have it because that was all they were able to eat. This was the end of the story. Her little girl totally understands now that BF'ing is only food for tiny babies and not her.
I started this pregnancy a 30 ddd moved to a 32 ddd and have been using an expander on the back for comfort...I gotta go get fitted for nursing bras next week and I'm scared to know how big they've gotten. I wish I could be a nice d cup lol! Grass is greener... Anyways awesome link!

This is in no way NOT offensive when you word it the way you did.
Suddenly my life doesn't seem such a waste,
It all revolves around you.
My apologies ladies. I was just picturing XH's 4 year old cousin walking up to her mom saying I'm thirsty and lifting up her shirt and taking a drink. Yes this did happen at Christmas. With that being said... extended breastfeeding is Not for me. Edit: spelling
