Cigarette/ weed smoke

Hi guys,

So my neighbors smoke a lot of weed and cigarettes in their house as well as on their front porch. I can't leave our front windows open without the smell coming in and the smell is seaping through our microwave (due to the venting system). Oh by the way we are in a townhouse. Do u think that the smell can cause harm?? I'm going to talk to them when I see them next but I'm so sick to my stomach just thinking that it's affecting my baby.

Re: Cigarette/ weed smoke

  • Do you have a HOA you can contact about it? That way you don't have to be the one to talk to them?

I have a similar situation going on. Although mine is more about I think my new neighbors are selling it, and I'm sick of the constant heavy traffic coming in and out and parking in front of my house/driveway. I plan to contact our HOA.

  • Call in an anonymous tip to the police dept, that is not a good situation to be in or have your infant around.
  • My next door neighbours do the same, and our bedrooms are on that side of the house. So annoying! We can never have the windows open

Call the cops especially for the weed as I doubt decent conversation will bring any change! I would. I would not want my kid growing up next to some weed smoking neighbors. Do you really want your kid to be smelling all the weed ( and inhale second hand smoke) while playing on the front yard?

PS: if you smell it your baby does so yes I would think it's harmful!
  • My brother in law is a cop, he says it's private property. If they are doing in their house there is nothing they can do. And I am in canada so there is no HOA to contact I believe.

Just for my understanding, I assume weed is still an illegal drug in Canada right? So if you suspect drug consumption or being affected by an illegal substance use you actually cannot take any action? I can understand perhaps for smoking that may be the case but I'm surprised it's the same for weed. I maybe naive and not understand these things but it really shocks me that you cannot do ANYTHING for your child's well being?

I would try getting a third party of some kind involved. I don't know your neighbors, obviously, but I don't see you approaching them about their smoking going over too well

I'm pretty certain that if it's a private residence there is nothing they can do. Yes it's illegal but unless they have a legit reason to enter the residence they can't do anything. The only reason I know that is because college. ;)

Not to poopoo this in anyway, but the cops may not see it as a priority :(

I'm sorry you have to deal with this. I think if you can at least bring up to them that you are concerned about your baby's health, maybe they will at least smoke their cigs outside.

Do you own the home? Can you get done ventilation work done above the microwave??

in my state the consumption or being high is not illegal, but the growth, manufacturing, distributing, and possession of is.

Unless you have special laws up there cop are not going to do anything.

If they are only potheads i would approach them calmly with no demands just make them aware, hey (insert name) when yall smoke i can smell it in my house. While i don't care who you guys do i am afraid y nb sowing to get high. Could you please some elsewhere? Thank you.

  • I agree with asking them nicely to smoke else where.  I can't think of any of my friends (excpet one a-hole) who smoke ANYTHING who won't move it inside or to the back porch or whatever if asked politely.  It probably didn't even occur to them that it would be an issue.  Once you say "because baby" most people are surprisingly cool.

  • Lurker here. It's surprising to me that so many of you have jumped to involving a third party BERFORE talking to the people first. I think it is common curtousy to approach the person first and give them the benefit of the doubt, as previous posts have said I'm sure they might not have realized the issue. Now if they are unresponsive after you talk to them then I would try another route. I know if I was doing something to upset someone I would appreciate them coming directly to me first because I would try to fix the issue.
