Do babies ever stop/outgrow scratching?

Despite trimming her nails every night, this child manages to claw herself to the point where she has multiple scabbed-over scratches all over her body.

Someone please tell me that they outgrow this at some point.  I worry that she is hurting herself (even though she doesn't even flinch) and I'm tired of the looks and "helpful" comments I get from people.

  • I look more beat up than she does, my DD managed to make my eyelid bleed. She tends to scratch her belly though every single time I take her shirt off. I'm glad it's been at least 2 weeks since she's managed to claw her face but I'm eager for her to have a little more control when it comes to pinching and scratching.. No idea when it will improve.

  • Hopefully.. I cut hers everyday second day and they are still so sharp!! She's always got a scratch or two on her face and when she's nursing she plays with her ears sometimes and scratches the inside of them making them bleed sometimes.
  • It's nice when she does it gently and I get a little arm scratch out of the deal ;)
  • I had some how forgotten about the existence of emery boards.  I'll bust one out at nap time.

  • I use a nail file. It seems to help, but if I don't do it every day (which I don't) they get really sharp.

  • I file his nails daily but he still looks like a member of a baby fight club.
