Holy Spit Up

Hi ladies..

My LO has been spitting up so much and I'm getting concerned. Each time I feed her I hold her upright for 30 minutes afterward and she still spits up. I know I am not over-feeding her because I pumped to see how much I am producing. The pediatrician said babies just do that, but I just don't feel like I 100% trust that, being that it is a while after a feeding that she spits up. It is not projectile, just kind of pours out of her mouth. I have to keep a bib on her the entire day. Anyone else's baby doing this too? advice? TIA!

  • My DS was a spitter.  They said as long as he was a happy spitter and it didn't seem to bother him, and as long as he was gaining weight, then there was no reason to worry.

If you are concerned you can try breaking up the feedings, so feed her for a little bit, pull her off for a break and then feed some more, but they tend to not like being interrupted when they are in the middle of eating so that may not go well.  Also, make sure you burp her after feeding and make sure her belly is not compressed with elastic or a diaper that is too tight.  That would make my DS spit up too.

If it continues and seems to be a lot then take her in to the dr.

  • Sounds like DD, it's amazing how big that spit up seems. I would call my mom frantic when DD would spit up. She'd tell me to chill out, and that I was the same way.
  • My daughter was a happy spitter as well. Remember that baby may be getting more that you're pumping because she is more efficient/effective than your pump. If your supply is established you may want to try block feeding. This helped a lot with our daughter, but she also started eating more frequently and waking more at night to eat when we switched (around 4 months).

Eden spits up quite a bit as well. I started burping her before I lay her down flat too and more often than not she'll spit up first. It is a little annoying but it stops her from spitting while she's laying and choking on it. She hates when I have to get it out of her mouth with the bulb.

  • My first was a happy spitter... Seriously 4-5 outfit changes a day. The kid loved to spit. As long as they are happy and putting on weight they are fine.
I never left the house without a stack of burp cloths and a extra outfit.

P.s she eventually grew out of it.
