getting induced at 39wks

I'll be exactly 39 weeks and getting induced on Sunday..I'm currently not dilated at all.. The doctor wants to induce due to my sudden high blood pressure and she thinks there is no reason to mess around on waiting so close to my due date (Easter) ... So I'm a little nervous and excited! Lots of mixed feelings..didn't see this coming but it's not the doctors first rodeo..so I trust her. Anyone else being induced !? Also they have to "ripen my cervix" first which could take 12hrs then start the petocin to get things moving.. Being a FTM this is all very confusing and scary for me ...if anyone can shed some light on this whole process.. Thanks!!

Re: getting induced at 39wks

  • I was induced for bp issues both times. Sounds like they may give you a gel to ripen your cervix, or something similar, which is how my induction started. I was given a dose and sent home, returned he next day for another dose and sent home again. I returned a few hours later dilated and contracting and they started the pitocin. Ask questions if you need reassurance or want to know what is going on, it's your body and baby.

  • Had my 38 week check up today and BP was 130/80 :-/ says will induce if goes up anymore. Wants me on bed rest as well. Wasn't expecting it as I've had no issues during pregnancy. Read and watched some videos on cervix ripening and there are several different ways it can be done. I'd call tomorrow and ask what your doctor normally does as procedure as it can be done many ways. Most common way is gel or there was one that looked like a small capsule that can be inserted.
