Pregnant after 35

hemorroids-the fun stuff

I have now entered the TMI phase of pregnancy. Had these with the 1st pregnancy and they have returned. Not unbearable now but want to be prepared if they get worse. What do you do to help minimize the pain? I was just reading how you can soak your rear 3x a day fro 10-15 in warm water. Sounds great but who has time for that and with a 2 year old to boot. lol Looking for other ideas to help soothe.

Re: hemorroids-the fun stuff

  • I used Witch Hazel on the roids and a softener to help me go. I was taking Colace but started to get a stomach ache with it. Now I take Miralax every other day - I find taking it every day takes me too far the other way. Works just fine and little to no pain when I go. I've been eating a ton of fruit but even that wasn't helping.

Do you just by regular witch hazel on apply it with a cotton ball/pad? I have used Tucks medicated pads before so prob. similar. I should prob. get back to the Colace.

  • ask your doctor if you can take magnesium supplements. they get my system going.

out of curiosity, did you develop hems during pregnancy the first time too?

  • @ladylisalt - yeah, that's exactly what I was doing and still do if I feel the need. Stings a bit but seems to work very well.

yes, I did have them around the same time with my first. I did read that they are more susceptible to come back. Would I want to look into mag. supplements if I'm not constipated? Do they act like a stool softener? I can certainly discuss with MD next appt.

  • This is going to sound completely weird and hippy dippy. Google "j breathing". It's a natural birthing technique that encourages you to breathe and relax your muscles down your body. For whatever reason, it opens up your tush so you don't push so hard. I've used that technique this whole pregnancy, and after last time where I had the worst roids imaginable, this time I have zero issues. Last time, by the end, it's the only way I could manage to poop! (And it actually did work in labor, too, as an added benefit!)

I use Witch Hazel or Preparation H.

  • I buy the softest tissue, then use the moist flushable wipes as well.... minimize sitting and maximize fiber.
