Are you still feeding purees?

Emmett has been eating finger foods for a while now. He loves them! However, I've also been giving him purees on top of that since I want to make sure that he is getting enough fruits and veggies. Those of you who are feeding LO chunks or finger foods, are you still giving purees as well?

Re: Are you still feeding purees?

  • We stopped purées for a couple of days but then I felt like he wasn't getting enough, so we do one with dinner.

  • I do give them occassionally and sometimes mixed with cereal
  • I give her a purée pouch. She only lets me feed her yogurt on a spoon.

  • W eats a lot of purees and some finger foods. He still loves most purees and is getting better with finger foods.

  • We do purées (pouches) after solids to make sure O is full at every meal. He wants what we eat and we try that often but he also gags/chokes more than I'd like. Only 2 teeth here, so I'm hoping as they come in he'll do a better job at chewing.

  • We stopped doing purées a month or so ago.
  • We did purees for like a week, but DS didn't like them. We've been doing finger food/regular food since he was 6 months.

  • She has refused purees since 8 months, except for yogurt and occasionally applesauce.  All she wants is finger foods, and she eats them well.  She's like a bottomless pit.

We only do pureed pouches if we are out and about or if he's not crazy about his dinner, I'll give him one to make sure he's full (and sleeps well!).

  • We are still doing purees here. LO is startingto do some finger foods but we still rely heavily on purees.

  • We mostly do finger foods but we do a lot of the squeeze pouches for snacks or on the go.  He'll have an occasional fruit or veggie puree if were eating something that isnt baby friendly or if hes sick and not wanting to drink very much Ill give him that in hopes of getting some sort of liquids in him.
  • We do pureed fruit with cereal for breakfest. I also do some pureed fruit if she doesn't her regular fruit at lunch and supper. I think she prefers the puree over regular fruit to be honest.

  • yep, we are doing both.  Finger food is getting easier but part of me likes the security of knowing exactly how much he is eating so I still do the pouches.

  • I give her regular food and the pouch things, which are technically purees.
  • Wr do them at daycare and pouches went out and about. Finger foods at home for dinner and weekends.

  • I'm pretty much only doing finger foods as snacks so far, but I just mash up her meals with a fork and spoon feed them to her now. I stopped using a blender.

  • G isn't really in to people food yet, so we do mostly purees.  We're starting to introduce more finger foods.  He'll pick at them, but he doesn't eat enough of them to be full.
  • My LO eats a lot of cheerios and puffs and usually wants to try whatever I am eating which I am not the healthiest eater on the planet. I have tried giving him diced apples carrots and bananas but no interest. He has actually just started fighting me on puree's too I was going to put up a post to see if anyone else little ones where fight them. (thanks to a certain family member who hates feeding him... : (    )  So I am at a loss I have been trying to feed stage 2's once or twice a day and a stage one because he just isn't interested.

What are some good finger foods you all are feeding?

  • We are doing purees, oatmeal, and yogurt as well as finger foods.  Finger foods are still hit or miss so I don't feel like she can make a full meal out of them yet.  We give the spoon fed stuff first and finger foods after at this point.
  • We are! He has a fruit one with his oatmeal for breakfast and a veggie one with his finger foods for lunch. He'll have yogurt and/or finger foods for dinner.

This.  Plus my LO seems to gag on just about all finger foods except puffs and yogurt melts, sometimes to the point of vomiting.  She hasn't quite mastered chewing yet, but I keep offering finger foods to her with the hope that one of these days she will figure it out!

  • We give pouches but he won't eat purée's off a spoon! He loves real food! Especially grilled cheese, ravioli, meatballs, hummus on toast, and chicken!
  • Thanks ladies! It seems like most people are feeding a mixture of purees and finger foods.

For those of you whose LOs are fighting you on purees; will they eat them if they feed themselves? Emmett started to fight me a bit, but does a lot better with them if I let him feed himself.

This ^^^ he is just starting to get the hang of finger foods

Ill offer him some finger foods to start (usually what we are eating for dinner in little pieces), let him pick at them, and then do the pouch, then finish off with a finger food he loves like melts or frozen waffle pieces.

  • Yep.  We've been doing a combo of finger food and purees since 6 months.  Nug is a tiny peanut baby and I am paranoid that she isn't getting enough calories/vitamins.  I like the pouches because when it's gone, I know exactly how much she's eaten.  And they are super convenient for tossing in the diaper bag for an on-the-go snack.

  • I just tried giving DS the self feed apple bits from Gerber. He gagged and made a sour face which I do not understand because he loves the Apple purees. I had brown fried rice the other night and he loves rice, weird child. I tried to give him a pouch and I wish I had had a canvas because he would've made a wonderful painting. He liked to squish it and watch it shoot out the top.
