My OB referred me to a MFM specialist...we were especially happy to get an extra look at the baby because DH's sister lost a baby to an undiagnosed congenital diaphragmatic hernia. But my OB said she would likely have sent me anyway because I had a high BMI.
So today I had my appointment and they did a fetal echo and everything looked great. So I was surprised when I was checking out that the doctor said he wanted to see me back in 7 to 9 weeks. When I asked the nurse why, she said he just wants to do a follow up. When she called the scheduling line I heard her say the reason for my appointment was for BMI & headaches.
I know he seemed somewhat concerned about the headaches I've been getting and wanted the nurse to give me info on preeclampsia at checkout. Although my BP is currently fine and I told the nurse that I've checked it during headaches to see if it was BP related.
I guess I'm just wondering if this is normal? It seems kind of overkill to me considering everything looked good today and I don't actually have preeclampsia right now. I'm definitely going to discuss this with my OB at my next appointment...just wondering if anyone else going to see a MFM specialist because they may develop preeclampsia or because they have a high BMI?
Re: Seeing MFM for High BMI & Headaches?
BMI and headache as pp mentioned are both red flags for pre-e and it is not something to take lightly. However since he is letting you wait 7-9 weeks before seeing you again he is cleat not seeing it as an urgent issue.
Thanks ladies...I will definitely talk to my OB about her recommendations moving forward. Although I appreciate the MFM being cautious and definitely don't want to jeopardize my health or the baby's health, I also don't want to spend excess $$ for specialist visits if it's not necessary.
