Job interview

I'm currently 38 weeks and I was just called for an interview this Thursday. There is obviously no hiding my pregnancy and I cannot fit into my suit, so what are some things I could wear? I have black and light gray dress pants and some blazers but nothing that resembles a typical suit. I also don't know what to wear shirt wise.

I work in schools so this job will not start until August, so I do not need to worry about them covering leave or anything like that. I'm just slightly worried they'll look me over since I'm a new mom potentially starting a new job. Any advice on how to handle potential questions they will ask about coming back to work? I fully intend to no matter what.

I just hope I don't go into labor before (or during) the interview!!

  • It is illegal for them to ask about your family or childcare situation, so unless you volunteer that information, they shouldn't bring it up. Good luck!

  • I am a teacher and I've been a member of the interview panels multiple times. No one will say anything if you aren't wearing a suit! The dress pants and a blazer or even a nice blouse would be appropriate. You could even mention how great the timing works out that this baby is coming at this time of year so it doesn't interfere with next school year. ;-)
  • I have no blouses that fit! :( a friend was recently pregnant so I'm going to raid her closet tomorrow so I'm hoping I find something. I just don't want to look unprofessional but I also can't help that nothing fits me anymore!

Personally, I wouldn't recommend this. They are not legally allowed to bring it up so you'd be putting the interviewers in an awkward position if you bring it up, and putting them on the spot to respond in the most "correct" way.

Just keep it all professional and on topic. Dress pants and a nice blouse would be great.

  • Well I totally bombed it. I could not think straight and asked her to repeat almost every question. Her questions were so rapid fire and my brain just could not process things that quickly. Pregnancy brain is real!!!! I walked out and just wanted to cry (I still want to.) :(
