What are your thoughts?

$1,600 for a $20 Disney princess dress? Frozen was a cute movie but this is ridiculous.

  • I thought Frozen was a cute movie but nothing like these weirdo parents are making it out to be. I don't get the appeal. Sure I preordered it for us but it was to get the lowest price instead of pay $40 for it.

  • Not even for a prom. :))

When we were in Disney last month just about every little girl (my DD not included) had this dress on! If I only knew they were so popular I could have bought a few for the $60 they were selling them for and made a HUGE profit!!!

  • That's ridiculous. But not so different from the days of Cabbage Patch dolls. Remember when they were a couple hundred dollars? (I'm dating myself here;) I wanted one so bad, but the first year they were out, they legit were like $200 dollars or something like that.

  • Yeah, I have no problem with my daughters wearing a princess dress, but they will NOT learn that they can have whatever they want no matter the price.  If my daughter is wearing a disney princess dress, it's because we got it for the regular price or more likely on a sale.  My time is worth money too, so I'm not going all over creation for an article of clothing she'll forget about in 6 months.  A play dress is a pretty weird status symbol to brag about too, IMO.
  • I want my kids to learn how to deal with disappointment because in life you don't always get what you want and I also want them to learn the value of a dollar. Spending $1600 on a princess dress goes against both of those things, it's just ridiculous.

  • That is crazy! We have a LOT of princess dresses in my house, but not a single one of them cost more than $40. My wedding dress didn't even cost that much!

Just looked on ebay and there are quite a few with bids for over $100.

  • That's effing insane.

Though, mild quibble with the article--just because a mom is making a dress-up dress doesn't mean she's "desperate." Gauran-effing-teed it's way less pricey to make that shiz than it is to buy one.

  • I'm thinking people need to learn to sew!
