Nursing on the job

I go back to work on Tuesday (at a daycare) and am bringing my LO with me.  I'm having some anxiety about nursing him there.  Normally, we will be in the infant room and this won't be an issue but because we are a small center, we have mixed age groups the first and last hour or so of the day.  I plan on explaining to children that ask questions that it is the way he eats and that moms make milk for their babies but am still a little worried about parents' opinions.

  • Hit post too soon and can't figure out how to edit, but was just wondering if I'm worrying about something silly or if anyone thinks this may be a problem?

  • I can see why you'd be concerned about parents opinions. I teach kindergarten and some parents can be very opinionated! I think simply telling them that would be fine. All of those parents had their children and had a right to feed them how they wanted so you do too! If it were me, I would just try to nurse discreetly away from the other kids. But I'm sure they'll be so interested in your baby that it will be hard to avoid questions! Good luck! I'm sure it will be fine!

Thanks for the response! I plan on being as discreet as possible but like you said kids are curious so I don't think I'll be able to prevent the questioning.
  • Kids won't really notice. I've nursed in front of plenty of kids up to age 13 - they just think the baby is sleeping and don't give it a second glance.

    No need to worry!
