First Dentist Appointment

Well Sawyer had his yesterday per the pediatricians recommendation. We have a really great pediatric dentist in our area. It was totally precious, a puppet showed him how to brush his teeth. It was a little rough once they actually tried to look into his mouth but he did so well! He also has 4 molars coming in right now which would explain his random finger sucking and waking up in the middle of the night.

Anyone else have a dentist appointment yet? How did it go?

We went in March. It went well, no puppet show. She did a lot of shaking her head no, but it was adorable. They saw what they needed to see. We talked about fluoride a lot. Good appointment!

Apparently there is a dentist near me who will check a toddler's teeth for free when a parent has a check-up. So it's on my list, but I cannot imagine T sitting still while I'm having a check-up, so I haven't got any further. Also cannot imagine her opening her mouth for a stranger.

Same here, our pedi didn't feel there was a need at this point, she said 2-3 would be the best age. She said we could go if we wanted to but by waiting I can get better recs from local moms

Yeah with molars and canines coming in there's no way in hell he's letting a stranger in his mouth! We went when DS1 was 2.5 for his first visit.

Sawyer cried for a bit, but the way they did it he sat on my lap and then had his head on the dentists lap so that she could look inside. I suppose it helps that when you ask him what sound an airplane makes he opens his mouth and says AHHH!

We went a few months ago when DS was 14m. I would have waited a bit longer before going but DS has some black stains on his teeth and I wanted to have that checked. The dental office is for kids only, so it's very kid-friendly. DS was fine in the waiting room but not so much once we were in the exam room. He sat on my lap but started crying when the dentist went near him. She managed to have a quick look. She offered to get the black stains off with one of their brushes but DS wouldn't let her.

We will go in July when we put her on our inaurance. Hopefully all her teeth will be in by then (back molars are just starting) so she won't be so sensitive about her mouth.
