Short arms and legs-anyone else?

I had a growth scan at 35 weeks because they said I was measuring big. Everything looked great but at the end they did mention her legs were behind by 2 weeks. I went in again Friday at 38 weeks cuz I wanted to see if they've grown. The doctor says they have grown but still both on small side. Doctor doesn't seem to concerned but I'm still worried. Anyone have this happen?

Re: Short arms and legs-anyone else?

  • Yes. There's always something that is slightly small. But measurements are notoriously OFF and if you really think about it, how much do baby arms and legs grow in a week? Such a tiny amount. You are far enough along that they would have caught any kind of birth defect long ago so if he's not concerned then you shouldn't be either. I've been through it so many times and things just weren't measuring correctly. I don't even know why they bring it up!

  • I know!!! I was like really you had to go and say this as some side note 4 weeks before she's due lol. Sometimes I think we know to much about what's going on which is good and bad! Thanks for your reply!
  • OUr baby's legs have always measured <15th%ile whereas overall he's been 30-50th%ile. Our MFMs haven't been worried since everything else looks good. They say the femurs and humeri are notoriously hard to measure accurately. I think he's probably built like his brother who at 2.5yo is in 3T shirts and can still wear some of his 18-24 month pants. My BF had this also and baby was born in March and was normal. Stubby babies unite!!

  • My baby's head diameter is always low - has been since 19 weeks. It worries me every time I see ultrasound results but midwife seems 100% unconcerned - we only ever discussed it because I mentioned it, but she said it's totally within normal range and it's a hard measurement to get accurately anyway. Freaking me out though! But I guess it would be silly to think everyone's babies have the exact same proportions, so measuring a smidge behind on a couple measurements isn't really a big deal apparently.
  • I Have the opposite. Small head in the 7-15th percentile and super long legs in the 97th percentile. My husband is convinced I'm going to give birth to gumby! The dr says not to worry because the proportions vary so much between babies and as long as each individual measurement stays on the growth chart it is fine.
