Lanolin

How often do you apply this? Currently I'm using it every time I pump which is every 3 hours. It feels good but wanted to make sure it wasn't bad. I have an appt with a LC later this week and will ask but thought I'd ask here too. Thanks!

Re: Lanolin

  • yup- whenever you want- maybe after each nursing/pumping session. think of it as a moisturizer- it's not harmful to apply it frequently any more so than it would be to apply lotion.

  • Thanks that's what I was hoping so it's reassuring to hear! With 6 day old late term preemie twins I've been pumping a lot to establish supply and my nipples appreciate the tlc!
  • I am glad it's working well for you, personally I found it too thick and sticky, making it very uncomfortable to apply.  I liked the Motherlove Nipple cream which is all natural, organic, safe for baby to ingest, etc.  It was much smoother and sort of greasy, easier to apply.

  • I was told to apply it after every feeding or pump. I was very cracked and dry and it really helped soothe and heal faster. I used Medela in the hospital and Lansinoh at home. I found the Medela easier to use and the Lansinoh a little thick. 1 $10 tube lasted me almost 3 months FYI.
  • I just couldn't use it. Too thick and smelled like Chapstick. I gave it up after a few days. Haven't used anything at all since, and I've never had issues. Quite blessed. But I hear the earth mamma stuff is more comfortable to apply. If I need anything, I will look into this.
  • Funny you said Chapstick Frannavaldez9399 because you can also use it as lip gloss for you and your Newborn if they have chapped lips. Might be best used that way to use it up and buy one if the other nipple butters you like better.

Lol Good to know! I got a big tube of it before giving birth, and used some so I'm not going to give it away... I may try as a lip balm!
