When swinging worked for my son it was because he needed a vigorous, simple, back and forth motion. Maybe some babies like the fancy figure 8s and stuff the mama roo does but my son wouldn't have. We have a simple, two-direction swing for this one. One of the fisher price ones that plugs in.
My neighbor's baby is 2 weeks old and is a huge fan of the mamaroo. She is really the first one that I have heard of that loves it. I registered for both and was just going to see what I get. My neighbor is trying to convince me to get it even if no one purchases it for the shower.
We got the tri-directional swing I think snuga-monkey by fisher price. The mammaroo seemed pretty spendy for what it did. I skipped the boncer and got a vibrating RnP at the advise of my cousin who said it was a godsend for colicky babies.
I'm debating the same. We had the FP snug a bunny swing with DS and he liked it but it ran off batteries only at the time and was too much $$ in batteries.
I have heard nothing but great things about the mamaroo and I'm excited to try it out with my baby boy next month. I had a swing with my first born and he hated it so I'm thinking this will work much better because it moves the baby as if they were still in your belly! It's pricey so I got it off of Craigslist and save a ton.
I've read good reviews online about the mamaroo but the people I've actually talked to hated it. They complained their kids didn't like it at all. It seemed like an expensive risk to take so I went with a more traditional swing.
We got a plug in fisher-price SpaceSaver. Does back and forth and side to side and was only 80ish$ on sale on amazon. Whatever you get- get a plug if you can. Swings are massive battery hogs.

We got the Mamaroo. I've heard mixed reviews, but DH was convinced that it would make our lives easier. I guess we'll see in a month if that holds true or not.
We have a FP swing that DS loved and had planned to stick with just that, but received a mamaroo as a gift so we're going to hold onto it to see if DD likes it, if she doesn't then we'll return it. For those who don't know, you can change the speed on the mamaroo for more vigorous motion. We shall see how it goes....
I don't know if my DS LOVES the mamaroo? how do you know at 3 weeks old? but he is quiet in it, it seems to keep him calm. My husband was insistant on the Mamaroo...says he wants an adult sized one.
We have the Mamaroo and my 2 week old is content with it right now. lol I'm glad I didn't pay full price for it though because I definitely don't think its worth the price tag.
