Low thyroid levels

While at my appointment yesterday, my OB mentioned that my thyroid levels were borderline low and ordered a follow up blood draw. She mentioned that it's not uncommon in first tri- results and that worst case, there's meds for it. I googled symptoms, but they're things that could just as easily be pregnancy related (like tiredness). Anyone else have thyroid problems? I've got a few days left until I hear, so just curious.

Re: Low thyroid levels

  • I have wacky thyroid numbers too.... My doc said same--- common early pregnancy. Follow up blood draw in a few weeks.

Are your TSH levels low? Mine were borderline low (.375) my first trimester and like your doctor said it is most likely not an issue. They will do a follow up blood draw to test your Free T4. If that is normal then you should not need to be medicated but they will probably still check levels every trimester. By my second trimester blood draw my TSH was back to normal.

  • I had the follow up one done yesterday, so I'm hoping that it'll be normal too.

  • My numbers are borderline low, too. My RE put me on a low dose of synthroid at 7 weeks - although my ob/gyn has since told me that she wouldn't normally treat patients with my numbers. Everything has been normal since starting the synthroid, though, so I can't complain.

I hope your test comes back normal, but if it doesn't, the treatment is NBD. Good luck!

  • Mine were borderline low at my initial appointment at 8 weeks. She followed up again at 12 weeks and my numbers were "stable" but she is going to follow up again on my next visit just to be sure. I know that they can be all over the place the first tri especially.

  • Thanks ladies... They called earlier and I'm at .67 - low end of normal, but still okay. :) I'm happy for that.

  • My endo would be happy if mine were in the 0.6 range but I'm still at a 2.0 on 100mcg. I'm always going to be on synthroid but he expects my levels to improve about 2 months after delivery.
  • Glad it's in normal range and no further treatment is necessary.
