CPW: Storing Stained Clothes

Riley has some clothes where the poop stain is faintly visible or where the food stain is more than visible. Would you store them for possible use with the next LO?

I wouldn't store stained clothes.

Don't worry about it Mama, the next one will stain it anyway.

Poop stains are gross, but food stains are fine.

  • I voted no only because I just talked with a friend of mine who is about to have her second and it has been four years since her first--she said a lot of the stains have yellowed more with time.

  • Generally no, I am only storing clothes that practically look new.

If the stain is not very visible AND I love the particular item, or if its something like a bib, I would keep it.

  • I don't keep stained or damaged clothing, but I don't see anything wrong with it. Half of stored clothing comes out of storage with mysterious re-emerging stains anyway.

  • SS OAD here, but I probably wouldn't store them anyway. I like buying baby clothes and if we were having another I would just buy all new stuff anyway.

because it didn't fucking snow enough for me to build my own
  • I have issues, I can't even put clothes on my kids with a stain. but I pretty much can always get a stain out, sometimes it just takes a little extra work. also, sunshine gets all poop stains out within a few hours.

  • Im fairly sure that ALL of our clothes have been pooped and/or puked on. Every single thing.

I'm pretty good at getting stains out, but still. I'm keeping stained stuff. We won't use it in public but who cares about PJ and play clothes.

I wouldn't pass it on to someone else though.

  • Letting it set with clorox 2 has removed every poop stain, even after they've been washed once.
  • I keep and store almost everything with a few minor exceptions, like if it's severely stained AND I didn't like it that much.  Even if its severely stained but was one of my favorites I would still keep it.  I don't know if this is all for naught since DH says we're not having any more kids.  I am super sentimental about baby clothes and can't bear to part with them so I'm continuing to store.  At some point we'll have so many outgrown children's clothes we'll need another room just to store them.

@mainerocks‌ and @mandyrator79‌ tell me about this sunshine magic. Wash and then try in the sunshine? Wash/dry the put outside? Put outside before washing? Something else?

@casey78 I wash and put anything with stains (these days normally poop) out back on our porch in a nice sunny spot. sometimes I have placed a few things in front of a window with good light, and it's worked too. but really the more sunlight the better/faster it'll work. I read to never put something in the dryer that's still stained, as it'll set in even more. so if something comes out of the wash still stained that I don't think sunshine will knock out the I don't dry it and just save it for the next time I wash clothes again

  • I store. DS is wearing some of my brothers clothes that are 26-31 years old. the sun has taken out every stain so far.

  • Right now we are in a condo building so I cant put wash out in the sun.

But I could at the new house!

  • Nope, I wouldn't save them. I don't like putting anything with a stain on me or LO :)
  • How bad is the poo? I'd say good yes, poo no if it was bad.

I can't wait until we have sun again. I have all these stained cloth diapers, but we haven't had a block of sunlight long enough that I feel like I could put things out without fear of them getting rained on. Now that I type that out, it seems silly to be putting this off because of rain. So they get wet. So what? Apparently there's still a little bit of Arizona in my psyche...
This is how I know I'm a mom.... I get excited for a sunny day to so I can sun-bleach my cloth diapers.
