Does a comfortable bra exist?!

I am 29 weeks and have been struggling my entire pregnancy so far trying to find a bra that is supportive and comfortable. My chest has grown considerably and it feels like my ribs have expanded as well. Sports bras give me the saggy boob effect, but are comfortable. My regular bras with extenders offer me the support I need but the underwire digs into my ever-growing belly. I had a friend suggest nursing camis but I have NEVER been a fan of tanks with built in bras, that elastic strap at the bottom is terrible. Has anyone found a comfortable AND supportive solution?

Re: Does a comfortable bra exist?!

  • Last month, I bought two that are working well for me. One is a Maidenform wire-free bra and the other is a Bali, also wire-free.

    This is the Maidenform style:

I can't find the exact Bali one I got but it's from Sears. Amazon has similar ones. It's the most comfortable that I've found so far.

Sizing seems to be limited on the Maidenform one and it's kind of weird. I bought that one in a 38B but the Bali I bought is a 38D. It's so frustrating trying to find styles that actually fit and are comfy!

  • i found one at Soma...i am larger so Victoria's Secret doesn't work for me...
  • Thanks ladies! Yes it is really hard to buy online for me. Before pregnancy I was a 34 B, I am now in between a B and C and I swear I'm like a 40 now! Thank goodness for those clasp extenders! I will shop for some wireless support bras!

This is my current favorite. The saleswoman at Motherhood recommended it, and I went back for two more. As far as support, I don't know if I'd want to be doing jumping jacks, but they hold the girls up where they're supposed to be. FTR, I was a 36C before pregnancy, and now I'm around a 38D. I bought this bra in size L.

  • @anniemore I'm in Atlanta also.  I have not been in yet, but a friend told me that there is a boutique actually at Northside Hospital that will custom fit nursing bras.  This is super important for me, because my boobs have grown to off the charts huge, and I'm only 29 weeks.  I can only imagine how big they are going to be while actually nursing.
  • @anniemore I'll see if I can I find out any more info about the store and I'll send you a private message.

Can they recommend somewhere that does this in New England?!
I cannot find my size in the US, bought a couple of bras in the UK but I'm about to pop out of the biggest one I have (the biggest cup they do for my band) and can't find anything bigger.

The best fit I've found is Marks and Spencer which is a UK company - so comfortable and they carry my size (usually).

when I had my first, I went up to about a J for nursing but still had only a 30 back so ended up getting a bigger back size nursing bra and sewing sections out of the band to make it fit! Not particularly comfortable but it was practical!
  • I just bought a couple nursing bras from target and they are soooo comfy! One of them looks like a normal bra and the other is sort of like a mix between a sports bra and a regular bra (idk if that makes sense). Either way, worth a look. Especially because they're cheap in price but not in quality. Imo.
  • I found a couple at Kohls. No wires for me. I am 40B/C. Nothing fits exactly perfect. But at least I am not hurting anymore.
  • I'm struggling too. I've gone from a 34D to a 36/38F/G  Its almost impossible to find something without underwire for that size.  And I don't actually mind uderwire in the  the cups...its when there is a second wire in the band that digs into the side of my ribs.  I have one victoria's secret that is comfortable...but it is not nursing.  My other bras are nursing, but they hurt a lot.  I've really struggled.

  • Mine is called the invisible bra....but only when I am at home ;)

I hate wearing a bra with the underwire. So I bought the ones that you wear to bed. Not much support but so much more comfortable.

  • @MaggieG82 Yes! When I tried the Bali bra on in the fitting room, I made some inappropriate sounds, it felt that good compared to the bra I had just taken off.

  • AGREED about the Bali bra.  A couple of girls at work mentioned having the most wonderful bra for themselves post pregnancy but neither of them could remember who made the bras.  (No brand info on the bra once you remove the tag) They took pics and I showed them to a woman at Macy's who led me right to the Bali bras.  Since then, I've seen them at Kohls, and now on Amazon.

THEY FEEL LIKE BUTTER ON MY BOOBS! SO COMFY!  I think they'll be perfect post-pregnancy to keep the girls in place when they're engorged with plentiful amount of breast milk I'm praying I produce.

AND, they aren't really horribly ugly.  Kind of a better looking sports bra.... And really, at this point, who cares?  Comfort for any aspect of my body right now is welcomed. :)
  • theres a wirefree maternity sport bra in Destination maternity, they make a nice shape and has lots of support. dont remember the name of the brand right now.
