Do these sound like contractions?

I've never had "real" contractions.  DS1 was an emergency C-section a few hours after my water broke and DS2 was a RCS.  What I'm feeling now is very low in my pelvis.  My whole stomach isn't tightening.  It will start out feeling like a mild menstrual cramp and then escalate until it backs off again.  I can feel it in my crotch and butt and lower back.  Like I said though, the rest of my stomach doesn't tighten.  They have me on constant monitoring, and these are not showing up on their monitor.  I don't know what else they would be, but I've never had them before, so I'm not sure.  :)

Re: Do these sound like contractions?

  • It does sound like it to me but that's strange that the monitors aren't seeing them. What do the nurses think?

  • I agree with @Sterling13‌ I had all back labor. It may be the starting of something, but not quite contractions. I'm leaning toward her getting in place if it's not showing on the monitor.

Good luck fx she stays in a little longer.

  • I'd tell your nurse about anything you feel that seems weird or off. In early labor, I didn't even feel the contractions, but they did show up on the monitor, so based on the fact that they are not registering on the monitor, it makes me think it could be something else. When I did feel contractions, it was my whole stomach tightening.

  • I've been telling the nurses about them.  They aren't sure.  I've lost a lot more fluid over the night/morning, so it could be that she's trying to switch positions.  My OB ordered another u/s so we'll see if she's made a big move.  She been breech (butt down) the whole time.  I would think it would be hard to move in there with no fluid!

  • I felt like I had stomach cramps at first, of the "too much Taco Bell" variety. It took awhile for them to show up on the monitors due to the sensor being malpositioned, but once they got the sensor placed right, they showed up immediately.

  • With DD my water broke and 12 hours later I still wasn't having contractions. I was induced with Pitocin and shortly after started feeling contractions- they feel like MAJOR menstrual cramps. I also, like many of you ladies, had back labor. That shit is no joke! Are you in the hospital @aforst? How many weeks along are you?
