Hello everyone,
First of all, let me say congratulations to everyone who has made it to the other side of infertility; you give me hope. My complete story is in my signature, but basically my DH and I have been trying to conceive for the lat year with no luck with clomid and IUI. I am on the 2ww for my first round of injectibles and IUI.
For the past 7 years or so I have felt a burning sensation and deep pain in my lower pelvis after eating simple carbs and sugars. even feel a burning in my back. I'm not allergic to them, but I think I have an intolerance. Anyways, I have a sneaking suspicion that this allergy/intolerance is related to my infertility, yet no doctor has been able to confirm my hypothesis.
I know some women with gluten allergies were able to get pregnant after going on a gluten free diet, and one of my co-workers got pregnant after struggling with infertilkity for five years when she went on a diet geared towards her food intolerances. The problem is it cost $1500 to get on a plan with her specialist, and I wanted to use the expensive blood test and food plan towards food intolerances as a last resort.
Has anyone had success with treating their infertility by targeting food allergies and intolerances?
Thanks for any help,
Sami

Re: Food intolerances and infertility help
Well, I'll tell you my story and you can decide for yourself. There's no cut and dry answer in my world.
I always suffered from GI issues, and was especially sensitive to carbs/sugar. I was tested through normal blood tests for celiacs, and even with colonoscopies, I was not diagnosed with it. In 2011 I was diagnosed with DOR which has a tie to autoimmune disorder. Even though I was not diagnosed with celiacs, I couldn't help but wonder. So I cut out gluten from my diet and my cycles went from their clockwork 23 days to a normal 28 days. Clearly gluten had some impact on my hormones at the very least. Unfortunately, even if autoimmune disorder ruined my ovaries, the damage was done and I can't grow new eggs. I've since been successful with donor embryos and feel so much better with no gluten in my diet since 2012.
I talked to my GI doctor about this and she said it's entirely possible I'm "on the celiac spectrum but not diagnosable by current tests." I guess she says this is common and sees it with her patients. If cutting gluten out makes you feel better, that's what matters.
So in a nutshell, did it help me get pregnant? No, but my ovaries were already gone.
Did it help me sustain a pregnancy? Maybe.
Did it make my cycles go back to normal? It seems that it did.
Good luck!
