Baby gate

Currently we have a split foyer house with a partially finished first level. We have a gate to keep DD from going down the steps.

In the new house there will be two sets of steps. One to the bedrooms upstairs and one to the finished basement. She's almost 3 and can climb stairs either by crawling on them or by standing and holding the rail.

My question is, do I put up gates in the new place? Currently, we only own one, so I'd have to buy another if we were to gate both sets of steps. Do you think she's old enough where I don't have to worry? A friend made me paranoid and said "what if she starts sleep walking?"

  • We never gated our stairs.  We got lucky and DS never climbed them without one of us with him.  Now at 3.5, he goes up and down all he wants no problem.

  • How many steps are there?

Our LOs are similar in age and we have a similar set up with no gates. But we only have about 5 steps going up and another 5 going down. Plus it's all carpeted.

It's carpeted, but it's a full flight of steps. Not sure how many. I guess a gate can't hurt, but I was leaning towards skipping it since she does climb them with no problem. Now I'm going to worry about what she'll do during the night, so I'll probably put one in just to make sure she's safe.
